Synopsis:

Too Clever by Half coverLocked in a competition that could change their lives…or break their hearts.

Mr. James Alcott has carved out his place in the world with an esteemed position at Harrow School. But when the school changes direction, he’s set adrift. He can redeem himself by founding a scholarship program if he wins the annual Duke’s Trust competition for seed money. A seemingly simple task. Until a beautiful and mysterious competitor arouses his curiosity and leaves him speaking in iambic pentameter.

Lady Tessa Harmsworth was denied a formal education by her father. Now she has fabricated the reclusive Mr. Pettibone as the champion of her scholarship fund to further the education of other women and girls. The deception is the only way a woman can enter the Duke’s Trust competition, let alone win it. And Tessa intends to win. Until her annoyingly clever, poetry-spouting opponent sets out to uncover her ruse.

As Tessa and James match wits, their spirited rivalry turns into a passionate affair. With the coveted prize hanging in the balance, will they choose their lifelong dreams or follow their reckless hearts?

Too Clever by Half Original Cover

Tessa wishes to educate women who could otherwise not afford to pay for such an education.
James wants the same funds to educate young men with the same problem.
Both will go to any means to be awarded these funds.
This introductory novella to this series is an enjoyable read. It is however a novella and leaves you wanting much more.
This sweet/clean read is well written.
It was my introduction to this author getting 4.25 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization.
I have bought and read all three books currently available in this series and look forward to reading more from this author.

Synopsis:

51LgcA4LN5LAn irreverent gentleman, an abandoned wife, and a secret marriage. But is anything really what it seems?

Fun-loving Percy, the Captain Lord Granston, is everyone’s favorite cad. But his easy charm hides a dark secret. He’s plagued by nightmares and fears he’s losing his grip on reality. Then his wife arrives in London. The only problem is, he doesn’t remember marrying the woman.

Twice-widowed Finola Tenney Simmons has lost her hard-earned fortune. But she’s devised a scheme to reclaim it from her greedy stepson. All she needs is a pretend husband, with her old acquaintance Captain Granston playing the part. There’s just one complication. The captain inexplicably believes they’re actually married.

When Percy learns Finola isn’t his wife, he agrees to keep up the lie to secure her fortune, if she helps him settle his family affairs before he loses his mental faculties. But living as husband and wife leads them into temptation, and they devise a new plan. They’ll keep each other’s secrets, embark on a brief affair, and both get what they want before their fake marriage ends. It will work like a charm, as long as neither of them falls in love.

Twice-widowed Finola Tenney Simmons has lost her hard-earned fortune. But she’s devised a scheme to reclaim it from her greedy stepson. All Finola needs is a pretend husband. Unfortunately or possibly fortunately she chooses a man she met briefly, fun-loving Percy, the Captain Lord Granston.
Percy only remembers bits and pieces of his supposed wedding night and truly believes they are married. Although he learns the truth he still agrees to help her.
Can this ruse and pretend marriage lead to true love for this pair?
I can’t seem to get enough of Nancy Yeager’s books. This series has sucked me in and just will not let go.
I gave this latest of the Harrow’s Finest Series 4.8 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization. These books just keep getting better.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
