Synopsis:

A Regency Christmas story full of romance and intrigue with an ending to melt the heart.one winter's night

An earl keen to avoid marriage.

Hugo de Wold, Earl of Denham, made a foolish vow to take a wife by his thirtieth birthday. The fact the event falls on Christmas Day prompts his mother to invite potential brides to Wollaston Hall to celebrate the festive season. Time and the weather are against him. The sudden snowstorm means the roads are impassable, and so all he can do is suffer their intolerable company. That is until a late-night visitor brings a welcome diversion.

A lady desperate to help her grandfather reunite with a lost love.

The plan was simple, or so Miss Lara Bennett thought. With her carriage stuck in the snow, she would take refuge at Wollaston Hall. Her grandfather would battle the bitter conditions to come to her rescue, and in the process reunite with a lost love. Except no one could have predicted she’d become embroiled in a murder investigation. No one warned her of the earl’s handsome countenance, or that a connection would spark between them hot enough to melt the snowdrifts.

My Thoughts:

There is a murderer among them and treachery abound.

Hugo’s mother is determined to make her son wed. She has invited three marriage minded young ladies to spend the holiday at their home to put them at the feet of her son.
Hugo isn’t attracted to any of these women. But when a stranger shows up he is immediately drawn to her.
Lara is there due to her grandfather’s long list love who happens to be Hugo’s mother.
Let the games commence.
Suddenly murder and treachery are the name of the game.
Which one of the guests is a murderer?
Is the murderer one of the three women who are invited guests or the man who is one of the ladies brother?
I enjoyed reading this book by Adele Clee. It isn’t the first book I have read by this Author but it may be the most enjoyable and entertaining.

I gave this book 4.4 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization.

I read this book as a borrowed copy via Kindle Unlimited.
This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

A Sprig of Mistletoe

She’s unconventional . . .

Lady Catherine “Kitty” Egerton leads a quiet life in Hertfordshire riding horses, reading extensively to improve her mind, and entertaining one disappointing suitor after another. She desires to marry, but the men her father introduces her to detest a headstrong woman. Kitty wants to help the poor, and Christmas provides ample opportunities when women cannot join organizations that fund these efforts. When she’s invited to London to visit Field Lane Ragged School, it’s the opportunity she’s been waiting for. But she’s only allowed to go if she agrees to spy on her brother and his elusive friend—a key investor in the formation of a new Poor Law Union, a man who’s refused to visit their home in Christmases past. Kitty agrees because she has an ulterior motive: her dearest friend is in love with her brother, and the railway journey to London allows her time to play matchmaker.

He is not who he says he is . . .

Bartholomew “Bart” Fernsby inherited his wealth from a kind man who liberated him from the workhouse in Holborn. Sent to upper-crust schools, he received every consideration: lodging, food, clean clothes, except what he desired most—his mother’s love. But to whom much is given, more is required. Haunted by his parents’ deaths and a scandalous past, he’s determined to change other children’s fates by beating back the crushing blow of poverty taking London by storm. Putting his money to good use, he becomes one of the founding members of a Poor Law Union, which seeks to educate the poorest districts in the city, and enlists an old friend’s help to raise funds for Field Lane Ragged School. Another friend, Charles Dickens, has written A Christmas Carol, hoping the book will draw sympathy for the city’s poor and downtrodden. Bart purchases multiple copies for the Ragged Schools, but there’s only one problem—he hates Christmas.

Can Kitty’s love and a sprig of mistletoe mend Bart’s broken heart?

But it is nothing to the upheaval caused by Lara Le Brecque, his best friend’s sister, when she climbs over his townhouse wall shortly before Christmas and attempts to sneak into his London home. I read this lovely novella in the Christmas extension of the Wicked Earls’ Club Series very quickly. It is another well written book in this Multi-Author Series.
