“A sensual, soul-searing story readers won’t want to see end” (Library Journal):Dorian, the ruthless and wealthy king of the criminal underworld, captures widow Farah and takes her to his Highland castle — where he offers her a proposition that just might transform his hardened heart…Meet Dougan Mackenzie, bastard son of a Scottish laird and a bit of a rebel living at Applecross Orphanage and Farah Leigh who is also an orphan, placed there by her parents’ estate manager after their deaths. Two orphans who find each other. Fast forward 17 years to an adult Farah who works at Scotland Yard and the infamous Dorian Blackwell, king of the London criminal underworld. How is it that these two are immediately attracted to each other. You’ll have to read the book to find out.
They’re rebels, scoundrels, and blackguards-dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the women who love them, a hint of danger only makes the heart beat faster, in the stunning debut historical romance The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne.
Dorian Blackwell, the Blackheart of Ben More, is a ruthless villain. Scarred and hard-hearted, Dorian is one of Victorian London’s wealthiest, most influential men who will stop at nothing to wreak vengeance on those who’ve wronged him…and will fight to the death to seize what he wants. The lovely, still innocent widow Farah Leigh Mackenzie is no exception-and soon Dorian whisks the beautiful lass away to his sanctuary in the wild Highlands…
But Farah is no one’s puppet. She possesses a powerful secret-one that threatens her very life. When being held captive by Dorian proves to be the only way to keep Farah safe from those who would see her dead, Dorian makes Farah a scandalous proposition: marry him for protection in exchange for using her secret to help him exact revenge on his enemies. But what the Blackheart of Ben More never could have imagined is that Farah has terms of her own, igniting a tempestuous desire that consumes them both. Could it be that the woman he captured is the only one who can touch the black heart he’d long thought dead?

This is a book that had me HOOKED from Chapter 1!!
I found it totally engaging and had a hard time putting it aside when I needed sleep. The characters are well developed and make you fall in love with them right away. The book is full of surprises, twists and turns. You never get bored.
I had not previously read anything by this author but when invited to read an ARC of it from the publisher through Netgalley, I couldn’t resist.
This is a book well worth your time to read. If you’re a fan of Edgy, Raw and Explosive Historical Romance this is one of the best ones I’ve read in a while. If you like your Romance on the SWEET SIDE this will not be your cup of tea. Be prepared!! It’s going to knock you socks off!!!
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization.
I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY DIGITAL ARC OF THIS BOOK from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
