RAVEN AWARDS: RUNNER UP, FANTASY ROMANCE

SYNOPSIS:

Lord Hugh de Bar, known as Wolf, has been cursed and shapeshifts into a wolf at night. He vows to kill the man responsible for his torture, Earl Roland Chaserton of Tavistock, but the man has avoided this confrontation by staying locked away in his castle in hiding. But when the man’s granddaughter appears in the woods alone at night, Wolf realizes he can take her captive to lure the earl out of hiding so he can kill him. However, he needs to proceed with caution since the girl is armed with a crossbow and skilled at killing wolves – and also very alluring.

Lady Winifred (Red) Chaserton has defied her grandfather’s orders and sneaked out of the castle to investigate a mysterious hidden door in a knoll that she’s seen on one of the hunting trips with her grandfather’s knights. Alone in the dark and without an escort, she has only her crossbow to protect her. But when she feels she’s being followed by a wolf, the handsome lord of Babeny appears to protect her instead. She is intrigued by the presence of Lord Hugh de Bar, and lets down her guard. However, things aren’t always as they seem, and when she’s taken captive by him she realizes there is more to this dark lord than meets the surface. He says he despises her for killing wolves and being the granddaughter of his archenemy, yet his eyes tell her a different story. His gaze devours her – and she feels like he wants to eat her.

Will magical forces come between a lady and a wolf, or bring them together instead? And will the de Bar family finally find redemption from the dark magic that has been bestowed upon each of the siblings and brought turmoil into their lives?

MY THOUGHTS:

Who doesn’t love fairytales and this adult twist of Little Red Ridinghood is a well written version of this tale filled with fantasy and magic.
A much loved fairytale has been morphed into an adulthood version but still keeps the flavor we have all come to love.

Wolf is our hero instead of the villain in this retelling. The villain in this case is a witch who has cursed his family turning his twin brother into a wolf, full-time and himself into a shape shifter who turns from human to wolf.
Will our heroine find it in her heart to not kill the wolves? Will she discover the mysterious secrets behind this man/wolf she has come to love?
I gave this book 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.0 of 5.0 flames.
I purchased this title via Amazon in 2016 and remembered it when the author offered me a complimentary digital copy to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I re-read and reviewed voluntarily.

SYNOPSIS:

The Lady Captive:

Being a daughter of one of the legendary illegitimate sons of the king proves to be a blessing as well as a curse for Fia Douglas. Having both English and Scottish blood, she is being fostered in Northumberland per the late English king’s wishes. This puts her far from her beloved family and homeland of Scotland.

When war breaks out between England and Scotland, Fia finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Alone with a wounded Highland spy in the late queen’s secret garden, she ends up being kidnapped by the Scot and brought back to the Highlands where she is now a prisoner in her own land.

The Highland Laird:

Laird Alastair MacPherson is wounded and left for dead after being ambushed on English soil. When he stumbles into a secret garden in the woods to find refuge, he discovers a red-haired beauty whose life he’s saved several years earlier. She is inclined to help him so she can pay back the favor. But when his life is threatened once again, he is backed into a corner and has no choice but to use her as a hostage to escape.

Can a rugged Highlander love a lass whose secrets threaten to ruin his one chance at redemption? And will a woman who has fallen in love with her captor, be able to betray him if necessary?

MY THOUGHTS:

As expected from a Elizabeth Rose book it is entertaining. With a bit of magic and a hint of betrayal this read is a must for Elizabeth Rose fans.
This first in a new series book is tied to the Legendary Bastards of the Crown books but can be enjoyed even if you have never read that series.

Don’t miss book #1 in Secrets of the Heart series. It is an exciting way to start this new series and I look forward to the next installment.

I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 2.5 of 5.0 flames. Magic and intrigue make up this can’t put down tale.

She is thrilled to have been saved by a heroic knight, until she awakes and realizes he has brought her to her late father’s castle. She knows at once her savior is none other than the infamous Dragon’s Son. The feared man of all, and also the man who stormed her father’s castle and claimed it as his own. And while their relationship on the physical plane is rocky, Brynn has the ability to dreamwalk, leave her body in her sleep, and their relationship on the etheric plane is much different indeed.
