Highlander Harrison MacMasters knows a pretty face can hide bitter deception. Once, he’d been drawn to Grace Winters and the temptation in her kiss. Now, he knows better than to trust her with anything, including his heart. But when he’s drawn into a risky mission with life-and-death stakes, he’s forced to watch over the one woman he hoped to never see again.
Grace Winters will do anything to keep her sister safe, even if it means stealing the Crown Jewels themselves. But when she’s caught in the act, she’ll need to make a bargain with the devil to keep herself from the gallows and her family from the poorhouse. Too bad the one man she gave in to temptation with years ago now controls her fate and is playing a dangerous game of his own—with her heart.
Each book in the Highland Hearts series is STANDALONE:
* The Highlander Who Loved Me
* Lady Evelyn’s Highland Protector
* Tempting the Highland Spy
“Tara Kingston never fails to sweep us off our feet!” ~ USA Today bestselling author Eliza Knight
This is the third book of this series but could be read as a standalone. Although we met Harrison and Grace previously in book two of the series you wouldn’t be lost it you had not read any of the other books. There is some background you would miss but it isn’t significant.
I am glad this couple got their own story.
This book has a little bit of everything. There is mystery, danger and of course romance.
I have this title 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a medium sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames.
The heat does sizzle at times but it is mostly mild.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

The Laird’s Yuletide Bride
Highland Bodyguards, Book 9.5
by Emma Prince
One stolen kiss. Two enemy clans. A Yuletide wedding to warm the heart.
Adelaide burns with embarrassment to find herself at the Yule feast of her former intended. After he married another, she was set aside, the discarded fiancée. To make matters worse, she is caught under the mistletoe—alone. Fillan MacVale, Laird of an enemy clan, comes to her rescue, offering a kiss to soothe her pride. But when her father catches them, Adelaide and Fillan are forced into a swift marriage. Now Adelaide fears she is the unwanted bride yet again.
Fillan is determined to atone for his father’s sins and forge a new peace with his neighbors. But after a fateful kiss that leads to a hasty marriage alliance, Fillan is convinced he’s saddling Adelaide with a life of hardship and humiliation. Born with a clubfoot, Fillan doesn’t believe himself worthy of love—or the bonny daughter of his clan’s enemy. Can Yuletide heal their wounded hearts and bring their clans together?
The Laird’s Yuletide Bride is the story of Fillan MacVale (first introduced in The Bastard Laird’s Brideas the half-brother of Reid Mackenzie) and Adelaide MacDonnell.
Born with a clubfoot, Fillan doesn’t believe himself worthy of love—or the bonny daughter of his clan’s enemy. But after a mistletoe mishap that leads to a fateful kiss, Fillan and Adelaide are forced into a hasty marriage to ally their clans. Can Yuletide heal their wounded hearts and bring their clans together?
This novella-length Scottish historical romance is holiday-themed, but can be enjoyed any time of the year. Pick up your copy today! It can be read as a stand-alone romance, but it also continues the storyline of the Highland Bodyguards series.
(Bonus–if you couldn’t get enough of Niall and Mairin in His Lass to Protect, they make an appearance in this story!)
