Publisher’s Description:

A Duke Determined to be Perfect:
George Cornwall, Duke of Harley, is a perfect duke in almost every way. . . Just as he promised his father he would be. There’s only one problem. He doesn’t have an heir. When he encounters his childhood friend, Lady Eglantine, again he immediately knows she will be the perfect duchess and mother of his children. There’s only one thing. She refuses to marry him without love. He desires her, admires her, and longs to make her his, but George knows that something so wild as love might lead him from his path of perfection. Will he be able to let himself lose his heart or will his quest to be the perfect duke be his undoing?

A Lady Who Will Marry for Love:
Lady Eglantine Trewstowe is interested in only one thing when it comes to matrimony. Love. Having the good fortune to be an heiress, educated, and part of a loving family she’s in no rush to throw herself onto the mart. No, Eglantine is quite happy to wait for an unremarkable match to a marvelous second son who loves his library as much as he loves her. But when the Duke of Harley decides she’s the lady for him, even if he doesn’t love her one little bit, she rejects his cold proposal. . . Even if she finds her dashed heart has been lost to him. Will her merry manner crack the duke’s quest for perfection or will her chance at love vanish?

My Thoughts:

I knew as soon as I laid eyes on the cover that I had to read this latest book by Eva Devon.
Her books always entertain me. Her writing style draws me in from the first chapter. I love the humorous style and the somewhat serious characters.
George is a duke and he had made a promise to his now deceased father to be the best duke ever.
He and Eglantine have been friends for as long as either of them remembers.
So when George decided he needs to marry Eglantine is the first lady who comes to mind.
Childhood friendship is one thing but marriage without benefit of a truely passionate love is not to be borne by Eglantine. She will marry only for love.
Will this pair realize their feelings before it is too late?
I gave this sometimes delightful, somewhat exasperating tale 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 2 of 5 flames. This is a clean recency without explicit physical intimacy until the end of the tale.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book to read by invitation. This in no way affected my opinion of this delightful romance which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This Series:

  1. A Duke For The Road
  2. How to Marry a Duke Without Really Trying

Meet The Author:

Eva Devon, was raised on literary fiction, but quite accidentally and thankfully, she was introduced to romance one Christmas by Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory novella, The Present.
A romance addict was born. She devoured every single Lindsey novel within a few months and moved on to contemporary and paranormal with gusto. Now, she loves to write her own roguish dukes, alpha males and the heroines who tame them. She loves to hear from her readers. So please pen her a note!

Publisher’s Description:

London 1816

Guy Fortescue comes to England to claim his inheritance, Rosecroft Hall, abandoned over thirty years ago when his father fled to France after killing a man in a duel. But England proves to be a dangerous place – someone wants Guy dead. As Guy seeks to discover who lies behind the attacks on his life, he arranges a faux betrothal with Miss Horatia Cavendish.

Unfortunately, things don’t go according to plan. An aspiring poet, Hetty proves to have a mind of her own but in spite of that, Guy finds her far too alluring.

Headstrong and lovely, Hetty agrees to the betrothal because it allows her to go to London where she can attend literary societies with her aunt. While her affection for Guy grows deeper, she must not forget the betrothal isn’t real. Guy will choose a bride from the beau monde – it will not be a colonel’s daughter from Digswell.

But Hetty is soon drawn in to Guy’s life, more and more, and not entirely against her will. He is handsome and brave, and the attraction between them is undeniable. Soon, she can no longer resist her desire for him and the fact that someone is out to kill him only feeds her innate protectiveness of the man she is betrothed to. As attempts are made on Guy’s life, Hetty and his sister ,Genevieve, work together to keep him alive, and a love that has been denied finally comes to fruition in the exciting conclusion.

Publisher’s Note:

This book was previous released in the UK under the title A Dangerous Deception, but new content has been added and the story edited to produce a quality, new tale.
