Publisher’s Description:

Brilliant Egyptologist Alexandra Quinn is stunned when the man who’d shattered her young heart rescues her from an intruder at the last minute. Forced to work with the rakish Lord, they must identify a cunning murderer who’s left a blood-drenched trail from Cairo to London. Alex knows better than to trust Benedict, but the wicked promise in his kiss tempts her.

Benedict Weston, Viscount Marlsbrook, never wanted to be a hero. For years, he’s plundered antiquities in his quest to restore his family’s debt-ridden estate. Now, a killer has targeted the only woman he’s ever loved—the woman he craves with a soul-deep hunger. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect Alex—even from himself.

My Thoughts:

This particular book from this series and not the series in it’s entirety gives mind to one of the early books I read by Amanda Quick (Jane Anne Krentz). In both we have someone who deals with antiquities. Both have a mysterious nature and make you want to continue reading to find out what happens next.

This book is also a second chance at love story.

Alexandra and Benedict had a mutual past. When a killer threatens Alex he feels it his duty to step in and protect the only woman he ever loved.

Will the killer win out or will this renewed relationship win in the end?

I gave this newest book in Her Majesty’s Most Secret Service series a 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.25 of 5.0 flames.
There is no need to have read any other books from this series or to have read them in any particular order as they all can be read as standalone titles.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley via invitation. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I have read and reviewed voluntarily.

Publisher’s Description:

A Welsh Methodist minister’s daughter changes her life when she appeals for help to Nicholas Davies, a half-Gypsy earl…

They called him the Demon Earl. They said he could do anything. Son of a rogue and a Gypsy, Nicholas Davies was a notorious rake until a shattering betrayal left him alone and embittered in the Welsh countryside.

Desperation drives quiet schoolteacher Clare Morgan to ask the Demon Earl to help save her village. Unwilling to involve himself in the problems of others, Nicholas sets an impossible price on his aid–only if Clare agrees to live with him for three months, letting the world think the worst, will he intervene.

Furiously Clare accepts his outrageous challenge, and the two are swept into an intoxicating Regency world of danger and desire. As allies, Clare and Nicholas fight to save her community. As adversaries, they explore the hazardous terrain of power and sensuality. And as lovers, they surrender to a passion that threatens the very foundations of their lives.

Editorial Reviews:

  • Romance Writers of America RITA and Golden Choice Finalist “Both sublimely romantic and scorchingly sensual, Thunder and Roses is an extraordinary romance from an extraordinary author.”
  • – Romantic Times“Ms. Putney has powerfully conveyed the healing power of love and deftly woven in humorous elements for a wonderful read.”
  • – Affaire de Coeur“Thunder and Roses is the first of Mary Jo’s Putney’s Fallen Angels series. If it’s not the best romance series ever written, it’s at least in the top five…. If you’ve never read Thunder and Roses, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It’s a treat in every sense of the word, and will remind you why you started reading romances in the first place.”

Publisher’s Description:

Retired spy Abigail Matheson has inherited the title of Marchioness of Buchman upon the death of her cousin. The title, which he’d inherited from her father, should never have been hers. But that annoyance is forgotten when The Raven, Abigail’s superior, introduces her to Sir Stirling James. They request her assistance on one final mission: find the stolen crown jewels of Scotland.

Abigail accepts this unexpected opportunity in hopes of forgetting the young French spy she killed on her last assignment. When The Raven and Sir Stirling inform her that she will be working with Lord Reade, a rake of the first order, Abigail, who’s always worked alone, plans to ignore the partnership and complete this mission alone.

Lord Reade, brother to Robert Murdock, the Earl of Kinwall, has been given the opportunity to gamble with men who can afford to lose a lot of money. And a lot of money is exactly what Reade needs if he is to save his family’s ancestral home from creditors and prevent his brother’s family from being forced onto the streets. The catch: he must work with a beautiful spy to find the thief who stole the Honors of Scotland. Surely, he can ignore her long enough to salvage his family’s fortune. The string of suitors determined to be the next Marquess of Buchman prove too much a distraction, however, and Reade is forced to take matters into his own hands.
