Publisher’s Description:

Be careful what you wish for…

When Lord Hawkridge inherits a penniless marquessate, he must abandon his courtship of the lowborn girl he loves. Years later, she rises from commoner to textiles heiress. Hawk has never banished her from his heart. Here’s their chance to share his home! But how can he convince a woman whose trust he destroyed that he desires her far more than her money.

Faith Digby’s chaotic world is too full to bother with men. She controls half a boarding school, one life-endangering secret, and two recently gentrified parents. There’s no time for the old flame roaring back into her life. Not when admitting she still loves him would imperil everything and everyone she holds dear…

My Thoughts:

This very enjoyable quick read in the Rogues to Riches series is book #4. I have read and reviewed all of this series to date and have enjoyed each one to a different degree.
Although part of a series this book as well as the others in this series read well as standalone titles. I really think you could read them in any order and not miss a single detail. There is no carryover from book to book.
The characters in this book are totally engaging especially the young daughter of this pair. I would read this book many times over. It is one for my keeper shelf.

Faith Digby never imagines she would encounter Lord Hawkridge. He is after all the last man she would want to come in contact with. After he inherited his title he dumped her and soon after she found she was pregnant with his child. Her parents skillfully hid the fact that the little girl was hers though and now the father has returned to her life.
Lord Hawkridge never wanted a woman more than he did Faith. Even though she is lowborn he wished to make her his wife. Circumstances of his families financial standing caused him to cry off though.

His duty to his family to bring them back from financial ruin after his father’s death was the cause of his ending his intentions to marry Faith. Will Faith put her trust in this man after all she has endured?

Will his love for Faith that never ended be enough to bring this pair back together?

I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames.
We realize after Faith’s secret is revealed that there must have been at least one intimate encounter between our hero and heroine. All of the intimate scenes in this book are relatively mild in nature.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book by invitation from the publisher.
This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Publisher’s Description:

Book Three in the hilarious and romantic Clash of the Tartans series!

The ascension of King James of Scotland to the throne of England has united two age-old enemies. The king is determined to stamp out the clan feuds that have led to centuries of murder and mayhem.

When his father is executed for assassinating the laird of another Lowland clan, Broderick Maxwell is unexpectedly thrust into leadership of his clan. He strives to resurrect his clan’s reputation at a time when change is sweeping over Scotland.
He must also take responsibility for raising his 11-year-old sister.

Kyla MacKeegan is the daughter of a powerful Highland chieftain, and an accomplished sea captain who has plied the waters of the Hebridean Sea since childhood. Broderick is drawn to her from their first inauspicious meeting. But a union between a Highlander and a Lowlander would never work. Especially after Broderick accuses Kyla of smuggling opium by way of the Solway Firth and sinks her father’s galley.

Laird Corbin Lochwood is determined to avenge his uncle’s assassination by Broderick’s father and will do his utmost to gain control of Maxwell lands. Can a romance survive a sunken galley and age-old hatred?

Publisher’s Description:

Acclaimed novelist Jody Hedlund brings the real story of “Amazing Grace” to page in a thrilling tale of the love story of John Newton and Polly Catlett.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost, but now am found…

Now remembered as the author of the world’s most famous hymn, in the mid-eighteenth century as England and France stand on the brink of war, John Newton is a young sailor wandering aimlessly through life. His only duty is to report to his ship and avoid disgracing his father—until the night he hears Polly Catlett’s enchanting voice, caroling. He’s immediately smitten and determined to win her affection.

An intense connection quickly forms between the two, but John’s reckless spirit and disregard for the Christian life are concerns for the responsible, devout Polly. When an ill-fated stop at a tavern leaves John imprisoned and bound, Polly must choose to either stand by his side or walk out of his life forever. Will she forfeit her future for the man she loves?

John Newton fell in love with Polly Catlett at first sight. But Polly was unable to return the affections of the rebellious, worldly young man and her father ordered the aimless John away from her. Not long after, John was pressed into serving in the Navy. He saw Polly one last time before leaving England but Polly couldn’t promise any future to him.

After four years away, John is called back to England on family matters. But John was heavily, blindly involved in the slave trade and had no desire to return. John Sr. used his son’s undying love for Polly to lure him home. On that treacherous voyage back to England, in the midst of a terrible storm, John finally experienced salvation and began moving towards, eventually, crusading against slavery. Back at home, John must work hard to convince wise-beyond-her-years Polly Catlett that he is a changed man and worthy of her.

Step back through the pages of history, to uncover the true love story behind a song that continues to stir the hearts and ignite the faith of millions around the globe.
