Publisher’s Description:

Revenge might be sweet, but love is far sweeter…
Following the Battle of Culloden, Alexander MacIvor returns to his ancestral home, Blackloch Castle, only to find the Earl of Tay, chief of the rival Clan Campbell, has laid waste to everything he holds dear. In the face of such devastation, Alex seems doomed to live the life of a fugitive Jacobite…until a stroke of good luck allows him to escape the Highlands and begin again. Years later, styling himself as a wealthy Englishman, Alexander reclaims his forfeited estate, becoming the new Laird of Blackloch. But it’s not nearly enough to quell his thirst for vengeance.
Hell–bent on destroying Lord Tay, he single–mindedly sets about driving his nemesis to bankruptcy. When he learns the earl intends to marry the very beautiful English heiress, Miss Sarah Lambert, thus escaping penury, he devises a devious plan: kidnap Miss Lambert and ransom her to hasten Tay’s ruin.
When Sarah Lambert learns Lord Tay is not the man she thought he was during a masquerade ball in Edinburgh, she is devastated. Reeling from her discovery, things go from bad to worse when a mysterious yet charming guest by the name of Alexander Black turns out to be a true devil in disguise.

Abducted and whisked way into the wild Highlands by Black, Sarah is imprisoned in a remote, island–bound tower. Refusing to be a pawn in Black’s diabolical plan for revenge, she determines that somehow, some way, she will regain her freedom. If only she could unlock Black’s secrets…Living in such close quarters, Alexander quickly discovers the spirited Sarah is more than a match for him, and even the best laid plans can go awry when passion flares and the spark of love threatens to revive his long–dead heart. When the shadows of the past begin to gather, will Alexander and Sarah find their way forward…or will the threatening darkness destroy them both?

My Thoughts:

I couldn’t put this book down!
This well written story of an abduction for revenge turned to an unstoppable love is precisely what I needed to read.
War is never pretty and Alexander is bent on avenging the deaths of his mother, sister and betrothed at the hands of Lord Tay and his troops.
Alexander is living his life under an assumed name because he is a wanted Jacobite supporter. He has regained his property by purchasing it under this assumed name.
Still just regaining what is rightfully his is not enough.
Will his list for revenge cause him to ultimately loose this woman he has come to love?

I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 4 of 5 flames.
Alexander is essentially good and promises Sarah that he will not cause her any harm.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read and review.
This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Publisher’s Description:

Book 7
With a heart as cold as ice, Lady Eira Koldottir claims her late father’s throne and the frozen island of Skol after her enemy has killed off her entire family. Preparing for another attack that is sure to come, she needs every able-bodied warrior to fight with her. When two strangers appear on the island, she realizes it is an English knight and his squire. But Sir MacKay de Bar has no desire to help her. He only wants to find his way home.
MacKay is the last of the de Bar siblings to be cursed by the evil witch, Hecuba. Stranded with his squire on a frozen island with a ruthless ruler he calls the Snow Queen, his only desire is to return to England. But when his curse takes hold, he starts seeing good as evil, and anything bad looks good in his eyes – including the cold-hearted Snow Queen.
The meaner Eira treats him, the more MacKay likes her. She wants his allegiance in her army, but he only wants her in his bed.

Can a cursed man and a hardened warrior woman come to terms when dark magic threatens to ruin their lives? Or will a curse turn into a blessing and turn enemies into lovers?

My Thoughts:

I have read several of these Tangled Tales retelling of famous fairy tales.

I’m sorry to say this is my least favorite of them all. It is the end of this series and the characters did not appeal to me.

Eira is just plain mean and nothing seems to change her demeanor.

MacKay doesn’t realize due to his curse that she obviously doesn’t like him nor is she willing to help him find his way home.

What can end MacKay’s curse and will Eira’s frozen heart ever thaw toward the final de Bar sibling who has not found his love?

I gave this book 4.0 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. Intimacy with MacKay is the last thing on Eira’s mind as she much prefers war to love.

Publisher’s Description:

Book 1
Tangled Tales Series
(A twisted, tangled, romantic retelling of the fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood.)

Lord Hugh de Bar, known as Wolf, has been cursed and shapeshifts into a wolf at night. He vows to kill the man responsible for his torture, Earl Roland Chaserton of Tavistock, but the man has avoided this confrontation by staying locked away in his castle in hiding. But when the man’s granddaughter appears in the woods alone at night, Wolf realizes he can take her captive to lure the earl out of hiding so he can kill him. However, he needs to proceed with caution since the girl is armed with a crossbow and skilled at killing wolves – and also very alluring.

Lady Winifred (Red) Chaserton has defied her grandfather’s orders and sneaked out of the castle to investigate a mysterious hidden door in a knoll that she’s seen on one of the hunting trips with her grandfather’s knights. Alone in the dark and without an escort, she has only her crossbow to protect her. But when she feels she’s being followed by a wolf, the handsome lord of Babeny appears to protect her instead. She is intrigued by the presence of Lord Hugh de Bar, and lets down her guard. However, things aren’t always as they seem, and when she’s taken captive by him she realizes there is more to this dark lord than meets the surface. He says he despises her for killing wolves and being the granddaughter of his archenemy, yet his eyes tell her a different story. His gaze devours her – and she feels like he wants to eat her.

Will magical forces come between a lady and a wolf, or bring them together instead? And will the de Bar family finally find redemption from the dark magic that has been bestowed upon each of the siblings and brought turmoil into their lives?
