Synopsis:
Gelis Ratry left the simplicity of her family’s farm to find out what else life had to offer. And what better way to find out than moving in with her aunt Lorna, the innkeeper of a rowdy seaside tavern, The Lady’s Smile, situated on the road from Inverness to Aberdeen. Helping out with the inn is certainly livelier than the farm, and dangerous. Gelis handles the daily characters and rough men of the tavern with finesse, but a troop of malicious soldiers might be a little more than she can handle.
Thomas Grant is a giant roving highlander. With half of his family lost in the war and the other half lost to the plague, he spends most of his time looking for the next drink. But despite his drinking habit, his heart is searching for a deeper passion. Good thing he shows up at The Lady’s Smile just in time to fight off a band of despicable musketeers looking to have their way with Gelis.
The Lady’s Smile is a 30,000-word adventurous medieval Scottish romance with no cheating, no cliffhangers and a happily ever after ending.
My Thoughts:
Gelis is a fiery heroine and Thomas Grant is just the man to grab her attention.
Although she is certain she needs no help from this drunken Highlander she is wrong.
Even though Thomas has a habit of trying to get as drunk as possible he is looking for something with a deeper meaning.
Is Gelis the answer to his prayers?
I gave this short read 4 of 5 stars for character and story development. With short reads it is often difficult to get a real knowledge of the characters. Considering this is a short novella I feel the characters have been developed to this reader’s satisfaction.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book via Hidden Gems and also from the author.
This in no way affected my opinion of this story which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Publisher’s Description:
Sir Gareth Locke lost an arm at Waterloo. He’s in love with his new bride—but he’s dreading their wedding night. He knows it will be an ordeal: clumsy, awkward, and mortifying.
Cecily Locke knows what to expect in the marriage bed—after all, she’s been married once before. It will be uncomfortable and a little messy, but over quickly enough.
But Cecily and Gareth are about to have a wedding night that neither of them expects…
My Thoughts:
This sweetly sensual short read is wonderfully written.
I read it a single sitting and found it totally engaging.
Misconceptions abound…
Both Gareth and Cecily are dreading the intimacy of their wedding night but for different reasons.
They are in for surprising circumstances and an unusual outcome.
I gave this short novella 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 4.5 of 5.0 flames.
This book consists of one very intimate scenario.

Publisher’s Description:
Home is the sailor, home from the sea…
Five years after he’s lost off the coast of South America, presumed dead, Captain Robert Nash escapes cruel captivity, and returns to London and the bride he loves, but barely knows. When he stumbles back into the family home, he’s appalled to find himself gate-crashing the party celebrating his wife’s engagement to another man.
No red-blooded naval officer takes a challenge like this lying down; but five years is a long time, and beautiful, passionate Morwenna has clearly found a life without him. Can he win back the wife who gave him a reason to survive his ordeal? Or will the woman who haunts his every thought remain eternally out of reach?
Love lost and found? Or love lost forever?
Since hearing of her beloved husband’s death, Morwenna Nash has been mired in grief. After five grim years without him, she must summon every ounce of courage and determination to become a Dashing Widow and rejoin the social whirl. But she owes it to her young daughter to break free of old sorrow and find a new purpose in life, even if that means accepting a loveless marriage.
It’s like a miracle when Robert returns from the grave, and despite the awkward circumstances of his arrival, she’s overjoyed that her husband has come back to her at last. But after years of suffering, he’s not the handsome, laughing charmer she remembers. Instead he’s a grim shadow of his former dashing self. He can’t hide how much he still wants her—but does passion equal love?
Can Morwenna and Robert bridge the chasm of absence, suffering and mistrust, and find the way back to each other?

***
For six long years Thomas Moreland has dreamed of the beautiful young noblewoman who rescued him from death. While amassing his fortune in India, not a day passed he did not recall Felicity’s fair loveliness, did not recall the silken tones of her sweet voice, did not desire to possess her.
Now a widow, Felicity Harrison does not recognize the handsome nabob as the young man left for dead by highwayman years earlier. Though she wants nothing more than to snub the arrogant man who promises to rescue her family from financial ruin in exchange for presenting his sister to Society, she cannot snub him. She must force herself to bear his company. But the longer she is with him, the more she has to force herself to remain true to her dead husband’s memory. Why is it the humbly born Thomas Moreland possesses more nobility that any man of her class? And why is it she finds it harder and harder to mourn a dead man when Thomas’s virility awakens her deepest desires?
