Publisher’s Description:

THERE’S A FINE LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE.

3dbcccc7-4ca3-46f8-92b8-0c9e67670457

Despite being thrown from her home and stripped of her place in society at a young age, Madame Marce Davenport is proud of what she’s accomplished with her family and the notoriously scandalous Craven House. Except it’s all built on a lie. When an arrogant duke strode into her home years ago, offering her a way to keep the brothel open, she agreed to his game of deception. But now that her siblings have found their happiness, Marce can finally live the life she’s always wanted: one that embraces the truth. And that means severing ties with the man who has claimed too many of her days—both in reality, and fantasy.

Rowan Delconti, the Duke of Harwich, has been angry for so long: at his father, at the woman who broke apart his parents’ marriage, and at the children who won is father’s love. He’s determined his mother won’t be unhappy again—even if it means pretending to be married to Marce, so that his mother will think he’s found love in his life. But the beautiful madame fuels his fire like no other, and the charade starts to feel all too real.

When Marce and Rowan’s secrets finally come to light, their passion may not be enough to staunch the hurt of the past. Can two people who were so wrong for each other, realize they’ve been right all along?

My Thoughts:

This well written book by Christina McKnight was a joy to read. I love this author’s writing style in general and try not to miss one of her historical romance titles.

This is book #3 of this series and I have read books 2 & 3.

This story is the most involved of the ones I have read with the hero and heroine starting out really hating one another and gradually over a period of eight years their feelings change.

This change was so gradual that neither seems to notice that their hate has become love.
Rowan is so certain that Craven House is what it started out as, a house of ill repute, that he thinks Marce is a Madame earning her living off other women.

Marce has turned the former brothel into a sanctuary for abused women, helping them to obtain employment and getting them away from their abusers.

Will Rowan realize before it’s too late that Marce is not what he’s pegged her to be and that life without her isn’t what he wants?

I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames.

Unbelievable as it is our hero and heroine have stayed away from each other’s bed until near the end of this story.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book to read and review for this tour.
This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
