Lady Jane, The Countess of Keegain, and her sister, Miss Julia Bellevue consider how to share the holiday cheer while snowed in with trying relatives and over-zealous friends.

The stress of the holidays is compounded by the eminent birth of Jane’s baby.

Jane’s friend Connie shares unsolicited advice about…well…practically everything, but even she is not prepared for this Christmas arrival.

As the holiday and Jane’s time draw near, Lord Keegain, The Baron Fawkland and Miss Julia Bellevue must take over the Christmas preparations and much more besides in an attempt to stave off tragedy.

Will this Christmas season end in joy or heartbreak?

Enjoy this sweet and heartwarming short story with many of your favorite characters from The Baron in Bath.

My Thoughts:

This is a Sweet/Clean Regency Romance with endearing characters and a wonderfully written story.
I can’t personally imagine the horror our heroine must feel at the prospect of giving birth after having lost her first child.
This sweetly told short romance could easily be termed a novella rather than a short story, since it’s length is close to one hundred pages.
I gave it 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development. There is a low sensual rating of 1.0 of 5.0 flames since there are only a couple of kisses involved in this tale,

I had not previously read anything by this author but made a point to sign up for her newsletter after reading this story.
I read this title Free on Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affected my opinion of this short Christmastime tale which I read and reviewed voluntarily. The thoughts expressed are all my own.

Publisher’s Description:

The past haunts them. Treachery awaits them. Love will save them.

A shattered lass…

Scarred by the cruel whims of her late husband, Lena MacLeod lives in fear of men and marriage. So when the king’s edict obliges her to wed Scottish warrior Alex MacLean, she never expects to feel safe, let alone happy. But behind Alex’s fierce exterior lies a gentle, gallant highlander who renews her soul, emboldens her, and offers her the one thing she never thought she would possess—true love. Now that Alex has her whole heart, she’ll settle for nothing less than all of his.

A tortured highlander…

Haunted by violent nightmares of his dark past, Alex MacLean has put off getting married for as long as possible. But now he finds himself the husband of the fragile, beautiful Lena, and he’s drawn to her as he has never been to another. He vows to protect and heal her, and as she grows stronger, so does his love for her. Yet, his horrible memories and a treacherous task are preventing him from giving himself to her entirely, and the secrets he harbors threaten to destroy their life together.

A union…

When Lena uncovers a dangerous scheme involving Alex, she embarks on a desperate journey to save the man she loves. But Alex still hasn’t let her in, and he runs the risk of losing her—and his life—unless he can accept that his once delicate wife is now an ally strong enough to light his way.

My Thoughts:

Julie Johnstone has a knack for enchanting her readers with her wonderful highland tales of love and adventure. This book is no exception.

Lena is a scarred woman, not physically, but mentally and emotionally so. Her first husband was cruel and unfeeling.

Alex also has his flaws. He has violent nightmares caused by a past that has scarred him too.

When King David orders them to marry, it is part of a scheme for Alex to flush out traitors. Alex is not allowed to reveal his part in the King’s scheme but instead has been directed to appear as a turncoat himself.
Will these two be able to overcome obvious strikes against their relationship?

I enjoyed this read from the start. I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 4 of 5 flames.
The intimacy between our hero and heroine starts sadly and ends up a real joy.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this title from the author to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This Series:

  1. When a Laird Loves a Lady
  2. Wicked Highland Wishes
  3. Christmas in the Scot’s Arms
  4. When a Highlander Loses His Heart
  5. How a Scot Surrenders to a Lady
  6. When a Warrior Woos a Lass

Publisher’s Description:

Lillian Lancaster would rather catch the plague than a husband. Unfortunately, her abusive, recently deceased father’s will stipulates her inheritance hinges upon her marrying a lord. With time running out, Lillian proposes to the guilt-ridden, marriage-averse Lord Edgeworth after securing his agreement to a marriage in name only.

Edgeworth feels responsible for his former betrothed’s death and believes he doesn’t deserve love, which makes Lillian’s proposal oddly perfect. Commanded by his grandfather to marry by Christmas or become penniless, the obviously perfect choice is a woman who wants nothing to do with him.

When Lillian displays a brave and true heart and Edgeworth reveals his honorable, protective side maintaining a marriage of convenience becomes harder than these two wounded souls imagined. Now, Lillian and Edgeworth must decide if they are courageous enough to risk their hearts and surrender to love.

This is book two of the Historical Regency Christmas Novellas featuring the meddling Duke of Danby!

About The Author:

Author Julie Johnstone first fell in love with romance fifteen years ago when she picked Julie Johnstone_Authorup her first romance novel in an airport gift shop on the way to Conroe, Texas for a family reunion and spent her whole weekend reading rather than water skiing, which up until then was one of her favorite things to do.

Julie is staying up way too late and typing furiously on her keyboard to finish her next book or blog with her fellow authors at Ladyscribes. Julie is married to an amazing lawyer and when she is not running her two precocious children to one activity or another she is trying to seek out some time to stay in shape and see her dearest friends.
