My Thoughts:

This delightful and somewhat scandalous regency tale is impossible to put down. I found myself reading into the wee hours of the morning not wanting to lay it aside.
When asked if I minded a more spicy version of this author’s work I may have been somewhat skeptical to begin with. After all she was previously known for her sweet, clean regencies.
I must say I have not been disappointed with each of these books providing a still somewhat sweet side, with just enough of the more sensual side of romance thrown in for good measure.
It shouldn’t surprise me that the heroine would be a lady’s maid given the evolution of the heroines in the previous books of the series, but it did.
Florence isn’t the usual heroine, but her story is an enjoyable one. Protective of her lady beyond what is expected of a mere maid, things get very convoluted in this tale.
Rollo has been in the background of the previous books and we know him to be rakish for the most part. It shouldn’t surprise us that his latest conquest is a lady’s maid. But for him to actually fall in love with her is very surprising.
I loved this story. It has everything. Just enough spice, a potentially scandalous background and a bit of mystery as well as an unforeseen love.
I gave this newest release 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames.
Our hero and heroine definitely generate some heated moments between them and some surprising restraint.
I receive a complimentary digital ARC of this title from the author to read for review.
This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
All thoughts expressed are my own.

Publisher’s Description:

A wounded war hero and a determined wallflower…

After five seasons as a wallflower, Lettie Fairchild is resigned to spinsterhood. Mostly. Determined to claim more meaning for her life than seeing her younger sisters married, she seeks a purpose. She finds what she’s looking for when she happens upon a book describing seven curses that plague London.

Nathaniel Hawke is attempting to adjust to civilian life after retiring from the military, but his injured leg and memories of his time in the service prevent an easy transition. On his long walks during London’s darkest hours, Nathaniel is appalled by what he sees taking place on the dirty streets and alleyways. He is determined to take action. Coming upon a proper, if rebellious, lady in the desolate area both intrigues and frustrates him.

Nathaniel’s disregard for his personal safety infuriates Lettie even as her heart is touched by his determination to aid the city’s neglected children.

As the two wounded souls stumble upon each other time and again in slums and ballrooms, they realize they fight a common cause–and share an unbridled passion.

Will the curse they fight be their downfall? Or will love win the day?

THE DEVIL OF MONTLAINE by Claudy Conn
The Beau Monde calls her Naughty Lady Ness, and with good reason. However, her family’s standing and her minor infractions are looked on with affection.

Until she goes too far.

Thus, she is banished to the wilds of Cornwall with her brother and cousin in attendance.

Like a magnet, trouble follows when she is drawn to the portrait of a man at the heart of a scandal.

He is known as the Devil of Montlaine, accused of witchcraft and murder.

But these were things that cannot deter, Naughty Lady Ness!

THE BLUE DRAWING ROOM by Carmen Caine

Penniless and jilted, Eliza Plowman accepts a position as governess to Lord Alistair Kennedy’s illegitimate children. When Eliza sets foot in the Scottish lord’s carriage, she faces the most dangerous foe a woman can face: a charming rogue. The danger is not only to her heart, however, but to her life, as well.

In an effort to deny her son’s illegitimate children, Alistair’s stepmother insists on a dour governess who will break their rebellious spirits. Alistair, however, decides that the pretty lass with a colorful French vocabulary who shows up in his stepmother’s drawing room is exactly what the children need. If the notion offends his stepmother, all the better. If the lass is what he needs… well, a man can’t ask for more.

His stepmother doesn’t intend for Alistair to open his heart to her grandchildren, or the woman who cares for them. Her plans include forcing them onto the streets.

ROMANCING THE ROGUE by Lana Williams

One enchanted evening.
One irrevocable moment.
Two lives changed forever.

Caroline Gold is desperate to save her family from financial ruin with a proposal from a wealthy duke. But a misstep has her engaged to the wrong man–Richard Walker, the Earl of Aberland, a handsome but cynical rogue with barely a farthing to his name.
Richard spies for the Crown under the guise of a wastrel rogue and seeks revenge for a fallen comrade killed by a notorious villain. Offering for the beautiful Caroline creates an unwelcome distraction. Yet the desire he finds with her makes him wonder if a life–and love–is possible…but only after he claims justice.

Caroline quickly sees there is more to Richard than expected, and his kindness toward her ailing father melts her heart. Yet marrying Richard won’t save her family despite the consuming passion she discovers in his arms.

A French spy posing as an English lord is on the loose. Can Richard unveil the man’s identity and stop him before he destroys all Richard holds dear, including Caroline?

A RAKE LIKE NO OTHER by Sue-Ellen Welfonder

Love is the greatest magic…

When Highland laird Lucian MacRae of Lyongate Hall leaves his home in northern Scotland to tend business in London, he never expects to meet the one woman who cannot just steal his heart, but might also help him break a centuries-old family curse.
Lady Melissa Tandy is not popular with English gentry – as a half-Scottish lass and a rebellious miss, at that – her wild ways and daring set her apart. Now someone is also trying to kill her. So when a dashing Highland lord insists on rescuing her, she has little reason not to run away with him to the Highlands, and every reason to fall in love.
