A spying debutante, a duke, and a conspiracy. Can love be found despite their feud?

Miss Rosamund Smythe, the only daughter of a baron diplomat, is finding the Season to be a dead bore.  After her stint at spying while in Vienna with her father, she wants a higher purpose in life than “just” being a wife.

His Grace, Alexander Milton, the Duke of Wrentham, wants a quiet life with a “proper” lady as his wife after the tumultuous childhood he had.  His parents had fought viciously, lied often, and Alex secretly wonders if he was even his father’s son.

Rose and Alex grew up on neighboring estates and have been best friends since she was four years old but a family feud has torn their friendship apart.

At a Society event Rose overhears a plot to entrap Alex into a marriage of convenience.  Her loyalty to their old friendship as well as her knowledge of the conspirator, Sir Jason Broderick, causes Rose to overcome her aversion to Wrentham in order to warn him of his danger.  Alex’s complicated childhood has caused him to despise all forms of deception so Rose avoids telling him how she knows so much about Sir Broderick.

When Rose is abducted by Sir Broderick to prevent her interference, Alex must deal with his own conflicted feelings to help her rescue herself. Can they claim their happily ever after despite the turmoil?

About The Author:

So far, all of Wendy’s books have been Sweet Regency Romances. She loves all things

connected to England, especially during the Regency period. While her stories are fiction, they are historically accurate. She loves all the research that entails! She never has “real life” people in her books. But they might sometimes be friends of friends. For example in The Duke Conspiracy and The Countess Intrigue, the villain is friends with Tallyrand, a real life person.

Wendy lives in Toronto with her own real life hero. She almost named the hero in one of her books, The Debutante Bride, after her husband, but changed his name at the last minute. She hasn’t yet written a character that she am ready to name after her husband. She is absolutely convinced that being an author is the best job ever. But when she is not writing (or reading) they love to travel. She also makes an effort not to get writer’s butt so she tries to stay active. Fortunately, Toronto is a very green city with many parks and trails to explore.

Since becoming a published author she has become active online and would love to be in touch with you on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Publisher’s Description:

Who is he?

At the age of four Lord Vickery was stolen by gypsies and sold to a chimney sweep. At the age of five he was reunited with his father. His history is no secret—everyone in the ton knows of his miraculous rescue.

But when Vickery finds his father’s diaries, he discovers that there may be a secret buried in his past…

Georgiana Dalrymple knows all about secrets. She has several herself—and one of those secrets is her ability to find missing people.

When Vickery turns to her for help, Georgiana sets out to discover just who Lord Vickery actually is…

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed reading this well written long novella/short novel.

This story is more about Vic (The Duke of Vickery) than about Georgiana.

At the age of four the future Duke of Vickery was stolen from his home by gypsies or was he?

What really happened to that child and who is the child who was recovered?

This is the mystery that Georgiana will use her gift to help the man she loves solve.

Will the truth bring Vic and Georgiana closer or tear them apart?

I gave this well written short read 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.0 of 5.0 flames. The single intimate scene between our hero and heroine is rather heated.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the author via book funnel and NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
