Lie Down in Roses

by Heather Graham

Publisher’s Description:

–RT Book Reviews

The willful and beautiful Lady Genevieve would do anything to save her beloved Edenby Castle
. . . even if she had to share the name—and bed–of her most treacherous foe . . .

He was Lord Tristan, nobleman and knight. Magnificent in battle, he would lead his invading army across the land, only to become captive to the sensual charms of the bold enchantress who was secretly plotting his destruction . . .
They were born to be enemies and destined to be lovers—players in a perilous game of intrigue and passion where the price was one woman’s innocence . . . and the prize was one man’s heart.

My Thoughts:

I have previously read many of this authors’ books in paperback and since the timeframe of the original release was nearly 30 years ago it is wonderful to re-read favorites with fresh new covers. This particular title seemed to have been refreshed for todays reader. It was much more sensual than I remember it being. I liked the book then but I loved this re-released version.
Tristan starts out to be an utterly cruel and cynical hero who at that time in this reader’s opinion was no hero at all. His previous marriage had ended with the deaths of his wife and child at the enemies hands so he therefore bears a deep hatred for anyone of that blood.

Genevieve starts out fierce but becomes more complacent as the story progresses. She is mistakenly loyal to someone that she deems a friend, but this person is no friend at all. She believes Tristan to be the person responsible for the deaths of her father and betrothed. She will not willingly become his lover.

I gave this sweeping tale situated in the time of The War of The Roses 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 4.75 of 5.0 flames.
This book is what some would term as a true bodice riper.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this re-release of a 1988 title from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

About The Author:

New York Times and USA Today best selling author, Heather Graham.

img-heather-graham-author-photo_152252287348Heather is the child of Scottish and Irish immigrants who met and married in Chicago, and moved to South Florida, where she has spent her life. (She has, at least, been to the Russian circus in Moscow, where she wished she was one of the incredibly talented and coordinated trapeze artists.) She majored in theater arts at the University of South Florida. After a stint of several years in dinner theater, back-up vocals, and bartending, she stayed home after the birth of her third child and began to write. Her first book was with Dell, and since then, she has written over one hundred and fifty novels and novellas including category, suspense, historical romance, vampire fiction, time travel, occult, horror, and Christmas family fare.

She is pleased to have been published in approximately twenty-five languages, and has had over seventy-five million books in print. She has been honored with awards from Walden Books, B. Dalton, Georgia Romance Writers, Affaire de Coeur, Romantic Times, the Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA and more. Heather has also become the proud recipient of the Silver Bullet from Thriller Writers. Heather has had books selected for the Doubleday Book Club and the Literary Guild, and has been quoted, interviewed, or featured in such publications as The Nation, Redbook, Mystery Book Club, People and USA Today and appeared on many newscasts including Today, Entertainment Tonight and local television.

Heather loves travel and anything that has to do with the water, and is a certified scuba diver. She also loves ballroom dancing. Each year she hosts the Vampire Ball and Dinner theater at the RT convention raising money for the Pediatric Aids Society and in 2006 she hosted the first Writers for New Orleans Workshop to benefit the stricken Gulf region. She is also the founder of “The Slush Pile Players”, presenting something that’s almost like entertainment for various conferences and benefits. Married since high school graduation and the mother of five, her greatest love in life remains her family, but she also believes her career has been an incredible gift, and she is grateful every day to be doing something that she loves so very much for a living.

Publisher’s Description:

“I never considered freckles and red hair to be an enticement but with those connections, the remaining Chadwick sisters have become quite the prospect for the bachelor about town. I flatter myself with the knowledge, however, that they will never be truly accepted by the ton. Not with such displeasing and unladylike temperaments.” – Lady Hampton, Duchess of Bromley.

With a duke and a viscount for brothers-in-law, Emma has found herself subject to increasing attention from the many eligible men of the ton. A new experience for this redheaded, freckled bluestocking, who would rather be doing something else—anything else—than dancing with men who are only interested in her connections.

Marriage is not for her.

At least it was not. Until a certain Lord Radcliff—and a true rake—decided to accidentally ruin her. Well, perhaps neither of them quite envisioned ending up twined in such a mess that the only way to save her reputation—and that of her younger sister—was to marry the man.

The Earl of Radcliff is a practical stranger to her but she is prepared to make the best of her situation. After all, she is nothing if not a quick learner. Perhaps she can learn to be a successful wife and countess.

Unfortunately, the earl is hiding a few secrets. She’s not sure what they are but one of those secrets is causing a strong hatred of the country, and that just will not do. Emma hates London and is prepared to do anything to remain in the country with her family and friends. Somehow, while dealing with all the new adventures and, um, desires a marriage can bring, she must persuade her new husband that the country life is for them.

My review of this title is coming soon.
