Publisher’s Description:

She was the weakness he could not afford, and the temptation he could not deny.

Highland warrior Cameron MacLeod’s mission for the king has just gone dangerously awry, and the best chance he has of saving it is the fair-haired beauty he encounters during the ambush. Injured during the battle, the enchantress has lost her memory, but Cameron harbors one of her. Long ago, a seer foretold that this woman had the power to destroy him. He’s confident he’s not so weak as to succumb to her charms, but the mysterious woman soon proves herself brave, guileless, and after one foolish, searing kiss, impossible to resist.

When Sorcha Stewart awakes in a strange place, the only person she has any memory of is the handsome highlander in front of her—and even that memory is hazy. Still, she instantly feels drawn to and protected by Cameron, and he proves her instinct correct with his willingness to endanger himself to defend her. Soon, love ensnares her, and when Sorcha finally recalls her history, she learns she’s irrevocably tied to the very enemies the Scot has been hunting.

Now that the seer’s foretelling is coming true, it’s putting Cameron in grave danger. With little time and their futures hanging in the balance, Cameron will have to swallow his pride and seek the help of his renowned brothers, whom he’s spent his life striving to be considered equal to, or risk losing Sorcha forever. As for Sorcha, she’ll have to break ties with her past to hold on to the wondrous love she’s discovered.

My Thoughts:

This book is Julie Johnstone at her best! When I was gifted an ARC of this book I thought I would have until September 5th to read it. Imagine my surprise when it released a week early.

I enjoyed the read. It is one of the best Medieval Romance stories I have read recently. The cover art alone would entice me to read this book.

Cameron MacLeod is forever trying to impress his father who thinks his third son is an utter failure. He enters a knife throwing contest only to be bested by a young woman disguised as a lad. Before he can catch her to discover her identity he is waylaid by a woman who is known to pretty accurately predict the future. This seer predicts that Sorcha has the power to destroy him?

Years later while pursuing a murder he stumbles across that very same young woman lying unconscious on the forest floor. Thinking she may have had a hand in the death of his king’s mistress he takes her home with him.

Sorcha Stewart has lost her memory. When she awakes the only person who seems even vaguely familiar is Cameron MacLeod. Even that memory is hazy at best.

Is Sorcha part of this plot against his king?

Can this pair of virtual strangers who seem destined to be together overcome the odds?

I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.0 of 5.0 flames. There are only brief sensual encounters and they are very warm on the scale of 1 to 5.

Although this is book number five of this series and there are repeat characters from the previous four, this book reads well as a standalone title.

I was gifted an early digital ARC of this book directly from the author. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Meet Julie Johnstone:

As a little girl I loved to create fantasy worlds and then give all my friends roles to play.61T0xz85Q6L__UX250_ Of course, I was always the heroine! Books have always been an escape for me and brought me so much pleasure, but it didn’t occur to me that I could possibly be a writer for a living until I was in a career that was not my passion. One day, I decided I wanted to craft stories like the ones I loved, and with a great leap of faith I quit my day job and decided to try to make my dream come true. I discovered my passion, and I have never looked back. I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate that I have been able to make a career out of sharing the stories that are in my head! I write Scottish Medieval Romance, Regency Romance, and I have even written a Paranormal Romance book. And because I have the best readers in the world, I have hit the USA Today bestseller list several times.

Publisher’s Description:

Inspirational Scottish historical romance.

A sweet romance blossoms amidst feuding and war. With her reputation at stake after being accused of practicing witchcraft and hated as a member of a rival clan, Maidie considers leaving Clan Munro and returning to the home of her birth in Clan Cameron. Fierce battles, a tragic encounter, and a handsome clan chief compel her to make crucial decisions in this haunting romance set in the16th century Highlands of Scotland.

Maidie is summoned to Fàrdach Castle of Easter Ross-shire to assist in caring for the wounded of Clan Munro after a battle with Clans MacKenzie and Cameron. She dreads the task since her husband, Kenneth Munro, was killed in an earlier battle. Maidie is a healer, taught by her mother, with the skills and knowledge needed to tend the wounds of Chief Andrew Dubh Munro who is seriously wounded.

People in the castle and those in the village of Drumainn turn against Maidie. Angus, the castle physician, resents her for taking his job in caring for the chief. She is hated by some, because she is a member of the enemy Clan Cameron and came to live in Ferindonald, the Munro lands, with her husband.

Maidie considers returning to the land of her birth in Clan Cameron with her young son, Sven, but falls in love with Andrew while caring for his wounds. Although her neighbors now call her a witch, she wishes to stay in Drumainn because of her love for the chief.

Against an effort to guard his hardened heart from another hurtful encounter with a woman, Andrew falls in love with the tender, caring healer, Maidie. He wants her to stay in Drumainn, but his enemies, the Camerons and MacKenzies, have other plans. They use Andrew in an exchange for Maidie and Sven after their warriors capture the Munro chief. Her father, the brother of Chief Ewin Cameron, wishes for Maidie’s inheritance to stay within his hands. After the exchange, Andrew vows to get Maidie back and plots her return to him and Clan Munro. While inside Castle Lach, the seat of Clan MacKenzie, Andrew meets a small child who is his daughter. He takes the child with him to provide for her when he leaves Castle Lach.

Gavin, Andrew’s brother, falls in love with Maidie. She is attracted to him, but knowing his roving eye, avoids his amorous attentions. Gavin tries to woo Maidie and win her heart away from Andrew. He offers an alternative to rescuing his brother instead of using her as an exchange for the chief. Maidie will not put Andrew’s life in danger and refuses. She resigns herself to going back to her father’s home. Gavin decides he cannot stay at Fàrdach without Maidie and makes plans to leave.
Davina, the younger sister of Andrew and Gavin, harbors resentment toward Maidie because of her brothers’ attentions to the healer. Davina is also jealous of the young warrior, Tavish, who Andrew assigned as Maidie’s bodyguard, and who is infatuated by her sweet charm. Davina secretly loves Tavish and wishes to marry him, but her brothers desire her to marry the MacKenzie’s son to bring peace between the clans.

Although Maidie loves Andrew, she knows their love is forbidden. Too many adverse circumstances surround their relationship. Being a devout believer, Maidie is concerned about Andrew’s lack of spiritual convictions. She realizes they can never be happy with a gulf between their beliefs. Will Laird Andrew Dubh Munro and Maidie Cameron Munro overcome the barriers standing in the way of their love
