Publisher’s Description:

“Sexy heroes, strong heroines, intelligent plots, enchanting love stories . . . Grace Burrowes’s romances have them all.”-Mary Balogh

A MAN WITH MANY TALENTS
As a captain in the army, Colin MacHugh led men, fixed what was broken, and fought hard. Now that he’s a titled gentleman, he’s still fighting-this time to keep his bachelorhood safe from all the marriage-minded debutantes. Then he meets the intriguing Miss Anwen Windham, whose demure nature masks a bonfire waiting to roar to life. When she asks for his help to raise money for the local orphanage, he’s happy to oblige.

Anwen is amazed at how quickly Lord Colin takes in hand a pack of rambunctious orphan boys. Amazed at how he actually listens to her ideas. Amazed at the thrill she gets from the rumble of his Scottish burr and the heat of his touch. But not everyone enjoys the success of an upstart. And Colin has enemies who will stop at nothing to ruin him and anybody he holds dear.

My Thoughts:

This is book two of the Windham Brides Series and I have read and reviewed both books.
I admit I like Grace’s writing style immensely and I have enjoyed both books equally.
Anwen has a problem that she is unable to solve on her own. Her school and home for wayward orphans is in financial trouble. She needs help and that help comes in the form of Colin MacHugh.
Colin is attracted to Anwen although he is fighting to keep his bachelorhood safe from all the marriage-minded debutantes. When she asks for his help to raise money for the local orphanage, he’s happy to oblige as he also takes the bunch of rambunctious orphan boys in hand. But Colin has enemies who will stop at nothing to ruin him and anybody he holds dear.

That is just the beginning of this convoluted tale of mayhem in the form of theft, an attempt to ruin Colin and attempted blackmail of Anwen in order to force her into a marriage with another.

I gave this book 4.75 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 4 of 5 flames. The attraction between hero and heroine is palpable and is essential in this well written tale,

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

About The Author:

Grace Burrowes started writing as an antidote to empty nest and soon found it an Grace Burrowes (2)antidote to life in general. She is the sixth out of seven children, raised in the rural surrounds of central Pennsylvania. Early in life she spent a lot of time reading romance novels and practicing the piano. Her first career was as a technical writer and editor in the Washington, DC, area, a busy job that nonetheless left enough time to read a lot of romance novels.

It also left enough time to grab a law degree through an evening program, produce Beloved Offspring (only one, but she is a lion), and eventually move to the lovely Maryland countryside.

While reading yet still more romance novels, Grace opened her own law practice, acquired a master’s degree in Conflict Transformation (she had a teenage daughter by then) and started thinking about writing…. romance novels. This aim was realized when Beloved Offspring struck out into the Big World a few years ago. (“Mom, why doesn’t anybody tell you being a grown-up is hard?”)

Grace eventually got up the courage to start pitching her manuscripts to agents and editors. The query letter that resulted in “the call” started out: “I am the buffoon in the bar at the RWA retreat who could not keep her heroines straight, could not look you in the eye, and could not stop blushing—and if that doesn’t narrow down the possibilities, your job is even harder than I thought.” (The dear lady bought the book anyway.)

A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

England, 1195 ~ Lady Juliana Kinthorpe is no longer the fanciful young woman who embraced the notions of love and chivalry nurtured at Queen Eleanor’s court. Wed to a desperately bitter man, she is forced to steal from the knight who betrayed her husband during the Holy Crusade. But even to save her sister, can she do the unthinkable? That which will cost her dignity, her heart, and perhaps her soul?

A KNIGHT TO DECEIVE

France, 1195 ~ When Sir Gabriel de Vere receives Bernart Kinthorpe’s invitation to tourney, he declines, well aware the baron blames him for his laming at Acre. But the ransoms to be won prove too tempting. Accompanied by his friend, Sir Erec Wulfrith, Gabriel journeys to England. Though he finds the fair Juliana much changed, still he is drawn to her—until he uncovers her deception and determines to take back what she stole from him.

Certes, there will be more than ransom to pay…

Dear Readers,

When I decided to rewrite my general market medieval romances into clean reads, I knew transforming BLACKHEART into LADY BETRAYED would be my greatest challenge. You’ll understand when you read the excerpt. Though there are many faith elements true to the middle ages–as well as our own–the plot is edgy, similar to the LADY OF EVE rewrite. And yet, when all is re-written and done, I believe it will be as firmly on the side of inspirational as my Age of Faith series. Ready?

Synopsis:

Christmas, a time of peace on earth, joy…and love?

Genevieve Munroe is determined to give her newly impoverished family one last happy Christmas, including making peace with their long-time rivals, the Pentercasts. But she is shocked when the handsome oldest son Alan proposes a wager: if he can give her all the gifts from the Twelve Days of Christmas song, without spending a penny, she must marry him.

Alan’s wild gambit is his last-ditch effort to win Gen’s heart. After all, no Munroe would ever consider marrying a Pentercast. But perhaps the joy of Christmas can open her eyes to the man behind the wager, a man determined to turn the twelve days of Christmas into a lifetime of love.

Book 1 in The Marvelous Munroes series, this sweet, clean traditional Regency romance was originally published as The Twelve Days of Christmas by Zebra Regency.

Readers have called it wonderful, funny, and charming, a great book to read over the holidays, or any time you’re in the holiday spirit.

Here’s a little taste:

“Clear the way, Mother,” an annoyed voice demanded, and Mrs. Pentercast scurried forward so fast that Gen’s mother had to step back to prevent the purple feather from lodging in her nose. Geoffrey Pentercast, looking much as Gen remembered in his many-caped brown-tweed greatcoat, clumped into the entry, trailing mud, decayed leaves, and a six-foot log in his wake.

“Thought you wouldn’t have a proper Yule Log,” he announced, dragging the massive stump by a chain into the center of the entry. Gen tried not to think about what it would cost to repair the scratches he was making in the parquet floor.

She could feel her mother’s disapproval. “Why, of course, Mr. Pentercast,” Gen answered quickly for her. “How very thoughtful of you to bring it along. We haven’t had a Yule Log in years, have we, Allison?”

“Yule Logs are such quaint customs,” her sister Allison said with a sniff, “for children.”

“I like to think there’s still some of the child in all of us, Miss Munroe,” a deeper voice said from the doorway. The flutter in Gen’s stomach intensified, and she swallowed, looking up to find Alan Pentercast regarding her. Her first thought was that he was very different from what she remembered, but she wasn’t sure what had changed.

Like his brother, he still had the shaggy thatch of brown hair that defied combing and the dark brown eyes that seemed to sparkle with some secret. Unlike his brother, who was shorter and more powerfully built, he stood a good head taller than anyone in the room. His face seemed leaner, his features more sharply planed. He moved with a negligent grace she’d only seen on London dance floors.

As Chimes their butler took his many-caped blue-tweed greatcoat, she saw that Alan wore the black trousers, white satin waistcoat, and black cutaway coat of a London Corinthian. Unlike the dress his mother wore, the outfit was obviously no copy. She would have said it had been cut by Weston, although she’d have also wagered there was no padding in the shoulders or calves. The sensitive, brave young man she remembered had been replaced by a confident, authoritative gentleman. She wasn’t sure whether to be disappointed or awed.

The Marvelous Munroes: What is more marvelous than falling in love?
