Calder MacGerry, laird of an impoverished clan, has resolved to end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclairs. He jumps at Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans—only to get more than he bargained for.
Katja’s chance to escape her father’s harsh treatment appears to be too good to be true. But becoming Lady of a clan that despises her because she’s a Sinclair, doesn’t make her life any easier. When the attacks turn deadly, she fights her way out, making a dangerous passage to the Shetland Isles for refuge with her Viking family.
Calder and Katja’s marriage, built on mistrust, rushes quickly into disaster. As Calder seeks to repair the damage, Katja discovers not another enemy, but a husband who pledges a new beginning.
From the Author:
Meet Katja Sinclair, a young woman who is forced to make some difficult decisions. After years of living beneath her father’s harsh rule, marriage to a neighboring laird seems a path to freedom and possibly happiness. But things soon go very wrong, and when she is obliged to fight her way out of a life-threatening situation, escape to her Viking family via a dangerous route to the Shetland Islands may be her only option.
This isn’t my first time reading a Cathy MacRae book but it is the first one I have read that was co-authored by DD MacRae.
Although this book is part of a series it does read well as a standalone story. There are no carry over characters and the story is written and developed as if it was intended to be a standalone title.
The characters are very well drawn out and the storyline is well written and engaging.
There was only one question that I felt was never completely answered. Why does Katja’s father feel such animosity toward her? She seems to try to gain his respect but nothing she does is deemed right by her sire.
Calder has become clan laired after the deaths of his father and elder brother. Although this situation would never have been his choice he is determined to do anything necessary to bring peace between the MacGerry and Sinclair clans. Even marry the Sinclair’s daughter.
Can these two enemies bring peace to the clans or will their mistrust of each other break them apart?
I gave this well written book 4.75 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.75 of 5 flames. There are very heated encounters between our hero and heroine even though they find it difficult to trust each other.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book provided by Author’s Pal to read for a Blog Tour.
This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I have read and reviewed voluntarily.
