Lord Sorin Wincanton fled England’s shores to avoid temptation in the form of Lady Eleanor Cramley, but upon his return from fighting Bonaparte, the impetuous young miss he escorted through her first Season has grown into a stunning woman who still fires his blood. She sees him as a beloved older brother, and that’s the way things need to remain for the sake of her reputation.
Even if it means marrying her to another…
Eleanor was devastated when Sorin left her after scolding her for her wild ways. During his long absence, she’s striven to mold herself into the proper lady he urged her to become. Now that he’s back, however, the gentleman who once served as her chaperone makes Elle long to toss all proprietary to the wind. And now she only has til Season’s end to prove to him that they’re perfect for each other – or face an unacceptable bridegroom.
There is nothing like a story of deep friendship that has turned into a passionate love.
Sorin left England to travel abroad to distance himself from his feelings for his young female friend Eleanor.
Eleanor was devastated by his having left her but continued to correspond with him through letters. She loves him as deeply as he does her but neither of them realises their feelings are mutual.
Now that he has returned will this well kept secret be revealed or will they continue along this path that could lead to the destruction of their relationship?
I became truly entranced with this marvelous story of a friendship that developed into something much more. I found myself wishing one of them would blithely announce to the other how they felt, but I guess that would have ended the story too quickly.
This sweetly written book with a little mystery and a scheming suitor is very well developed with very engaging characters.
I gave this book 4.75 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 2.5 of 5 flames. There is only one slightly sensual scene that involves only heavy petting.
I highly recommend this read.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Constable Will Danbury has infiltrated a school to investigate an alleged crime. What he finds is a deeper, darker mystery—and a potent attraction to the alluring headmistress, Jacqueline Trouvère. But a constable can’t get romantically involved with a suspect; even one he thinks is innocent, without committing career suicide.
As headmistress of a school devoted to saving the innocent daughters of London’s soiled doves, Jacqueline’s life is complicated. Will tempts her in ways she never thought to experience, but she believes no respectable gentleman could love a former courtesan.
Despite their best efforts to fight it, a romance blossoms. When danger jeopardizes the school, however, his deceptions and her omissions come to light, threatening to destroy their love. They must look beyond the past to save both their future together and the lives of those they’ve sworn to protect.
Each book in the Once Wicked series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order.
Book #1 To Love a Libertine
Book #2 Once a Courtesan
About The Author:
I delight in crafting incendiary tales that capture the heart and the imagination, taking the reader out of the now and into another world. Regardless of whether you choose to dive into the past, leap into the future or lose yourself in another realm entirely, between the pages you’ll find deep emotional journeys and passionate romance!
The splendor of the Georgian period (1714-1837) provides a lush, glittering backdrop for my sizzling historical romances. Between the pages of my early Georgian pieces you’ll find sensuous lovers, lavish royal courts, and deadly intrigues. My Regencies look back to an era of refined manners and strict propriety, while revealing the secret, wicked desires of its elegant ladies and chivalrous gentlemen.
In my sci-fi romances, love transcends all boundaries and spans a future of endless possibility based on what we’re learning about our universe today. My fantasy romances will take you on a quest through realms both familiar and unknown, with characters and creatures from myth and folklore, and of course include powerful magic paired with that most potent of all enchantments: love.
About moi? I live in Central Texas with my dashing hero/husband of twenty years and our beautiful daughter. I’m also privileged to serve (and it is most definitely servitude) one spoiled-rotten feline overlord. I adore chocolate and just about anything involving the words “salted caramel.” When my brain is too fried to weave stories, I read, watch movies or binge-watch television series, make jewelry, and knit scarves.
What do I read/watch? In addition to being a historical research junkie (there have been interventions), I’m a fan of all things sci-fi and fantasy. Star Wars is the first movie I remember seeing. I was five and watched a double feature of Episodes IV and V with my parents at the big theater downtown…and came out wanting to marry Han Solo. Fed on stories from authors like Tolkien, Baum, and Herbert, I became a language-loving, book-gobbling monster and have yet to be sated. The Kadin by Bertrice Small was the first romance novel I ever devoured. I was fourteen, it was delicious, and I’m now thrilled to be writing romance for fellow enthusiasts!

**Part of the Power of the Matchmaker series, this is a stand-alone novel and need not be read in conjunction with any other book.**
Irish heiress Caroline Fulton knows this house party, ostensibly celebrating the victory of Waterloo, is really an audition: will she make a suitable wife? Her host, an English lord, has already won over her father, who’s determined to buy a title with Caroline’s dowry. She is far from taken with the baron, however, especially once she meets Niall Doherty, the impoverished, perceptive tutor to her host’s younger brothers. He shares her love of Irish fairy tales and seems to guard a troubled past…but neither quality will earn Caroline’s father’s approval.
“A difficult thing for a modern author to achieve, this title maintains an Austen-esque style with a decided Irish flair the entire way through. . .Their journey–together, apart, and together again–is tightly and beautifully woven with mirroring legends and myths, a superb tale.” Julie York, InD’tale Magazine

About the Author:
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved to write. My first book was a ten-page effort written at age five for my grandmother.
Throughout grade school, high school and college I wrote for various school publications. When I was eighteen, my first professionally published piece—a humorous anecdote—appeared in Reader’s Digest.
Still, it never occurred to me that I might become a professional writer. I aimed for a career as a lawyer and was actually in law school when I sold my first book. When that happened, the world lost a would-be lawyer and gained a writer.
That book, which is still in print, is Island Flame, and it was published when I was twenty-four. Since then, I’ve written over forty books, which regularly appear on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher’s Weekly bestseller lists, among others.
The mother of three sons, I read, I write, and I chauffeur children. That’s my life.
Karen Robards is the New York Times, USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestselling author of more than fifty books and one novella. She has won multiple awards including six Silver Pens for favorite author, and was described by The Daily Mail as “one of the most reliable thriller….writers in the world.”
