MY PRE-RELEASE REVIEW of

How to Lose a Highlander

HowToLoseAHighlander-500

The MacGregor Lairds #1

by Michelle McLean

Publisher’s Description:
Forced into marriage by their king in order to stop years of inter-clan feuding, Sorcha Campbell and Malcolm MacGregor are each determined to drive the other away.

Malcolm knows he can never trust his new shrewish wife, despite the fact that everything he observes seems to prove that she’s not only trustworthy, but utterly perfect for him.

Sorcha knows she can never let her guard down around the man she believes betrayed her father, yet the longer she’s with him, the more she discovers he is nothing like she was led to believe.

They’ll have to fight their way through past prejudices and their own determination to destroy their union in order to gain their perfect HEA in this Taming of the Shrew meets How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days tale.

My Thoughts:

This author is new to me and this is the first time I have read any of her books.

This is Book #1 of a new series, The MacGregor Lairds.

The book is a relatively quick read with multiple layers to the storyline, I however felt it jumped around a bit.

I did like the read but thought maybe the story could have been a little more in depth with the relationship more explored.

I have read the Shakespearean play/story and watched multiple times the romantic comedy “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days” so I can see the comparison but this version of the story just left me hanging at times.

I gave this book 3.5 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames. The heat is more implied than actual.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I voluntarily reviewed.

Perfect for fans of Philippa Gregory and Alison Weir, The Virgin’s Daughter is the first book in a captivating new saga about the next generation of Tudor royals, which poses the thrilling question: What if Elizabeth I, the celebrated Virgin Queen, gave birth to a legitimate heir?

Since the death of her brother, William, Elizabeth I has ruled England. She’s made the necessary alliances, married Philip of Spain, and produced a successor: her only daughter, Anne Isabella, Princess of Wales. Elizabeth knows that her beloved Anabel will be a political pawn across Europe unless she can convince Philip to grant her a divorce, freeing him to remarry and give Spain its own heir. But the enemies of England have even greater plans for the princess, a plot that will put Anabel’s very life and the security of the nation in peril. Only those closest to Elizabeth—her longtime confidante Minuette, her advisor and friend Dominic, and the couple’s grown children—can be trusted to carry forth a most delicate and dangerous mission. Yet, all of the queen’s maneuverings may ultimately prove her undoing.

Praise for The Virgin’s Daughter

“Thrilling . . . [Laura Andersen’s] characters are well imagined and consistent, especially the Tudor siblings. . . . [The Virgin’s Daughter] balances action and plot with emotion and character development. . . . One of the best things about alternative history is that you don’t know what will happen next, and Andersen takes full advantage of that fact.”The Roanoke Times

“The plot includes many threads, yet they are weaved together flawlessly. Andersen brilliantly blends the history and historical characters we know into her wondrous new world.”RT Book Reviews

How to Design a Duke

A Regency Romance Book

Tots of the Ton Book #2

by Eleanor Meyers

Read and Reviewed April 24th, 2017

Publisher’s Description:908190499

He’s charming. She’s skeptical.
He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and she sees straight through to his heart.
It’ll never work. Or will it?

Lady Laura Abbey has much adjusting to do.
In a matter of one year she went from
being a little seamstress … to a widow … to the heiress of the Season.

She knows nothing about London and Society, but she’ll have to learn quickly if she plans to survive among the Ton’s casual cruelty.
Ironically, the most charming rogue and scandalous gentleman of London lends her his aid.

And like everything else in her life, it’ll come with a price.

Albion Kay IV, the Duke of Oakley, has never been known to play the part of gentleman until he meets her- a lady he finds to be so different than other ladies.

Everyone knows him to be a rake, but in one night, everything changes. Fighting his past will be Oakley’s biggest obstacle.

And Laura’s will come in the form of fighting her attraction for him.

Can the duke change from his old ways?
Will the lady find love or heartbreak?

My Thoughts:

Eleanor Meyers has done it again with another Worthington, Tots of the Ton title.
This book is certainly what we have come to expect from this author’s sweet/clean regency era romance. There are a bit more heated kisses than usual, but anything else is just implied.
Our hero has a child from a previous encounter. Our heroine is a widow with money but she is from humble beginnings.
Can the attraction between these two culminate into their mutual happily ever after or will it lead to heartbreak?
I gave this title 4.25 of 5 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 1 of 5 flames.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC of this title which I read initially before purchasing this title.
This in no way affected my opinion or review of this book which I have left voluntarily.
