The Danger of Desire

Pub Date 22 Nov 2016

by Sabrina Jeffries

Publisher’s Description:

The third book in the sexy Sinful Suitors Regency romance series, this heart-pounding story shows why New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries is one of the most beloved historical romance writers today.

To root out the card cheat responsible for her brother’s death, Miss Delia Trevor spends her evenings dancing her way through high society balls, and her late nights disguised as a young man gambling her way through London’s gaming hells. Then one night, handsome Warren Corry, the Marquess of Knightford, a notorious member of St. George’s Club, recognizes her. When he threatens to reveal her secret, she’s determined to keep him from ruining her plans, even if it means playing a cat-and-mouse game with the enigmatic rakehell.

Warren knows the danger of her game, and he refuses to watch her lose everything while gaining justice for her late brother. But when she starts to delve beneath his carefully crafted façade, can he keep her at arm’s length while still protecting her? Or will their hot desires explode into a love that transcends the secrets of their pasts?

My Thoughts:

As expected by this reader Sabrina Jeffries has written another winning story. There is just enough humor and mystery to grab and keep your interest.
The heroine is playing a particularly dangerous game while trying to find the man who subjected her family to ruin and caused her brother to take his life rather than face the consequences of having gambled away a large sum of money.
I was drawn in to Warren and Delia’s story. It is well written with compelling characters but the resolution of the mystery seemed abrupt to this reader. There was no conflict between the accusing and guilty parties after the fact. It just ends.
I therefore would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars for storyline and characterization.
It has decidedly heated moments so it gets 3 of 5 flames for heat.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalleyto read for review. This in no way affected my opinion.

There is a serious side to this romantic farce; two people who think they know who they are, what they want … and then get smacked in the face with the realization life doesn’t always fit into neat little boxes. (Plus! Readers and reviewers agree: Indiscreet has one of the funniest Prologues in fiction.)

Caledonia Johnston, ready to exact justice in the name of her absent brother, mistakenly lands in a coach owned by Simon Roxbury, one who shares the same enemy as Callie. An unholy alliance is struck, and the two conspirators battle each other, a matchmaking mama, two interested and not above interfering friends, and a poor soul (who doesn’t look his best in pink) in this delicious tale of revenge gone wrong and romance definitely gone right!

A brash American, Thomas Joseph Donovan, arrives in London just in timeto meet debutante Marquerite Balfour, young, beautiful, and very much in Donovan’s way. It would appear she has some mischief afoot, mischiefthat could ruin Donovan’s mission to arrange some “deliveries” to hiscountry, hoping to avoid yet another war with England. Bring on a battle of wills, a battle of wits… and an attraction that can’t be denied.
