Must Love Mistletoe
Holiday Duet Book 1
by Christie Ridgway
Bailey Sullivan can’t stand Christmas, even though her family’s business is a store specializing in the perfect holiday. But now her hometown’s chief supplier of rooftop Rudolphs and treetop angels is in danger of going under–and it’s up to Bailey to save the shop.
She has it all planned: She’ll arrive on December 1 and be gone by Christmas. Plus there’s always spiked eggnog to ease the pain. But “Humbug” Bailey’s not the only one home for the holidays. Finn Jacobson, legendary local bad boy turned Secret Service agent and Bailey’s long-lost high-school boyfriend, is once again the boy next door. Only this time he’s all grown up, and the sparks are flying faster and hotter than ever!
Bailey believes in true love about as much as she believes in Santa Claus. But as the holiday draws closer, she’s starting to think about one thing she’d like to find under the tree…
From RT Book Reviews:
“Ridgway delights yet again with this charming, witty tale of holiday romance. Not only are the characters sympathetic, intelligent and engaging, but the sexual tension between the main characters is played out with tremendous skill. The plot is well constructed, and the characters’ emotional responses are satisfyingly believable, both in dialogue and in action.”

Putney’s endearing characters and warm-hearted stories never fail to inspire and delight.” –Sabrina Jeffries
As heir to a title and great wealth, Will Masterson should have stayed home and tended his responsibilities. Instead he went to war. Now, after perilous years fighting the French, he intends his current mission to be his last. But all his plans are forgotten when he arrives in the small mountain stronghold of San Gabriel and meets her.
Knowing herself to be too tall, strong, and unconventional to appeal to a man, Athena Markham has always gloried in her independence. But for the first time in her life, she finds a man who might be her match.
Two of a kind, too brave for their own good, Athena and Will vow to do whatever it takes to vanquish San Gabriel’s enemies. For neither will back down from death, and only together can they find happiness and a love deeper than any they’d dared imagine. . .
This first book in a new series by Award Winning Author Mary Jo Putney may be a sleeper. It has the potential of being great, but just doesn’t clear the bar from being Really Good to Great.
I have read this author’s books in the past, so her writing style is not new to me. I would have preferred this book to be more fast paced. I had no problem putting it down and coming back to it later and when a book is really engrossing I just can’t seem to put it away.
I didn’t actually get the ARC of this book until after the publication date so I didn’t take a long time to finish it but longer than I would have liked.
I thought the characters were endearing but the storyline dragged a bit and became bogged down in places. It is a book with multiple storylines in that more than one couple falls in love and ends up marrying so that it ends up being a story within a story. Athena and Will are the main hero and heroine and you’re never too certain they will end up together. This one just wasn’t what I have come to expect from this author
I hope subsequent books in the series will live up to the standards I have come to expect from this author.
I gave this book a 3.75 star rating and a 2 out of 5 for heat.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion.

Rules for a Rogue
Romancing the Rules
by Christy Carlyle
Kit Ruthven’s Rules (for Rogues)
#1 Love freely but guard your heart, no matter how tempting the invader.
#2 Embrace temptation, indulge your sensual impulses, and never apologize.
#3 Scorn rules and do as you please. You are a rogue, after all.
Rules never brought anything but misery to Christopher “Kit” Ruthven. After rebelling against his controlling father and leaving the family’s etiquette empire behind, Kit has been breaking every one imaginable for the past four years. He’s enjoyed London’s sensual pleasures, but he’s failed to achieve the success he craves as London’s premier playwright. When his father dies, Kit returns to the countryside and is forced back into the life he never wanted. Worse, he must face Ophelia Marsden, the woman he left behind years before.
After losing her father, Ophelia has learned to rely on herself. To maintain the family home and support her younger sister, she tutors young girls in deportment and decorum. But her pupils would be scandalized if they knew she was also the author of a guidebook encouraging ladies to embrace their independence.
As Kit rediscovers the life, and the woman, he left behind, Ophelia must choose between the practicalities she never truly believed in, or the love she’s never been able to extinguish.
