Seducing the Marquess

by Callie Hutton

Publisher’s Description:

London, 1819…

Richard, Marquess of Devon is satisfied with his ton marriage. His wife of five months, Lady Eugenia Devon, thought she was, too, until she found the book. Their marriage is one of respect and affection, with no messy entanglements such as love. Devon’s upbringing impressed upon him that gentlemen slake their baser needs on a mistress, not their gently bred wives. However, once married, he was no longer comfortable bedding a woman other Eugenia. When she stumbles onto a naughty book, she begins a campaign to change the rules.

Lady Eugenia wants her very proper husband to fall in love with her. But her much changed and undeniably wicked behavior might inadvertently drive her confused husband to ponder the unthinkable—his perfect Lady has taken a lover. But the only man Eugenia only wants is her husband. The book can bring sizzling desire to the marriage or it might cause an explosion.

My Thoughts:hearts_clip_art_13197

I found this story of love after marriage to be very engaging. The characters are both well developed and delightful.
Imagine yourself in a time where wives are routinely thought by their husbands to be devoid of passion and too delicate of sensibilities to engage in such except for the purpose of getting themselves with child. Mistresses are routinely used for the purpose of slacking ones lusts.
Along comes a lady who not only loves her husband but upon the death of his mistress decides she will keep her husband from taking a replacement by becoming everything that a mistress could be.
This book is a delightful mixture of misconstrued notions and sexy, sometimes comical byplay.
I highly recommend this read.
I gave this book 4.5 starsfour-half-stars-for-brent-weeks for character development and a 5flame-torch-md flame-torch-md flame-torch-md flame-torch-md flame-torch-mdfor heat.
Don’t miss this title if you like your historical romance with heat and laughter.
I received a complimentary Digital ARC to read of this book which in no way affected my opinion

51w3lu7mrqlLondon, 1666:

Amethyst Goldsmith makes dazzling jewelry, but her future isn’t nearly as bright as the pieces she creates. Though custom dictates she wed her father’s apprentice, her heart rebels against the match. In mere days Amy will be condemned to a stifling, loveless marriage, and she sees no way out—until the devastating fire of 1666 sweeps through London, and tragedy lands her in the arms of a dashing nobleman who knows a diamond in the rough when he sees it…

Colin Chase, the Earl of Greystone, has his future all figured out. He’s restoring his crumbling castle and estate to its former glory, and the key to its completion is his rich bride-to-be. But the Great Fire lays waste to his plans, saddling him with trouble—in the form of a lowly shopkeeper’s daughter with whom he’s most inconveniently falling in love…

51tcc42lolEngland & Scotland, 1667:

Jason Chase, the Marquess of Cainewood, is out to bring a blackguard to justice when he crosses paths with a woeful Scottish lad. When the lad turns out to be a lovely Scottish lass, he realizes she must be the notorious bounty hunter Emerald MacCallum. Convinced they’re after the same man and her very life may be in danger, Jason decides he must keep Emerald close…

In Caithren Leslie’s view, there couldn’t be enough distance between her and the handsome but overbearing Englishman. She’s searching for her wayward brother, but Jason won’t let a little thing like the truth interfere with his absurd conviction that she’s living under an assumed identity. Mindful of the dangerous traveling conditions, Cait grudgingly accepts his protection. Until, that is, she begins to suspect that mistrust isn’t the only emotion between them…and their mission for justice just might turn out to be a quest for love…

51x3xqjojjlEngland, 1667:

Sensible Clarice Bradford is content in her widowhood. She has a pretty one-room cottage and a lovely little daughter, and the last thing she wants is another husband. Until one fairytale evening when she’s invited to a wedding at a castle…

Scottish gentleman Sir Cameron Leslie is smitten with the shy, English beauty at first sight. He’s fiercely drawn to the very strength and independence that make her unwilling to throw caution to the wind and bestow her heart on a younger man. Though passion flares between them, it will take everything Cameron can muster to reawaken Clarice’s long-forgotten dreams of true love…

I decided to become a writer in the third grade (or, as my Canadian friends call it, grade 71kabnhyrcl__ux250_three), after winning a “Why My Mother is the Greatest” essay contest and having my entry published in a major newspaper. Seeing my words in print was a thrill! But everyone told me it’s too hard for novelists to get published, so after college I spent fourteen years as the CEO of my own jewelry store chain before writing my first book. A mistake? Maybe…but my first heroine, Amethyst, was a jeweler, so at least I took advantage of that wise old saying, “Write what you know.” And I learned a good lesson: Don’t let other people tell you what you can or can’t do!

I write humorous historical romance mostly set in England and Scotland in the 17th and 19th centuries (Restoration and Regency periods). I’ve been oh-so-lucky to see my books hit bestseller lists all over the world, including the New York Times and USA Today lists, making this second career a real dream come true. I live in Southern California with my family and a constantly shedding cat, and I still think my mother is the greatest!
