MY PRE-RELEASE REVIEW of
Claude’s Christmas Adventure
by Pembroke, Sophie
HarperCollins UK, Avon
Women’s Fiction, General Fiction (Adult)
Pub Date: 20th, Oct. 2016
This Christmas a little dog is in for a BIG adventure…
Meet Claude. He’s a loveable, big-eared, permanently hungry French Bulldog, who loves his humans – the McCawley family of number 11 Maple Drive to be precise.
When Daisy and Oliver McCawley start using new words like, ‘ferry’, ‘chateau’ and ‘France’, Claude realises they won’t be spending this Christmas at home. Only, when he finds himself on the street, as the family car pulls away, Claude realises he is ALONE. And more importantly, he is without all the yummy treats he knows the festive season brings…
Cue the start of Claude’s Christmas Adventure. It all begins with a belly-flop through next door’s catflap, where he finds newly single and craft-a-holic Holly, Jack the ex-army postman, his arch nemesis Perdita the cat … and serious amounts of gingerbread.
Maple Drive’s cutest resident is about to bring the street together for Christmas, in ways no-one could have imagined …
This was an exception to the usual in my romance tastes. I read mostly historical romance and historical fiction, but found the cover enticing as I used to show dogs (poodles) and a doggy Christmas tale was something I couldn’t resist.
This book met up to and exceeded my expectations. I downloaded it yesterday (Sept. 13, 2016) and finished it this morning (Sept. 14th, 2016).
The characters are delightful both the furry ones and the human ones. The storyline is one I found utterly charming. I would look for other books by this author to add to my reading lists especially if they are as delightful as this one.
I would give this book a 4.5 star rating and look forward to finding more books to read by this new to me author.
I received a digital ARC of this book compliments of the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Strangers meet, romance blossoms. But there’s a test… A classic fairytale retold.
Good English families all have a house in the country with a deer park, a trout stream, and an army of gardeners. They should have a son and if it can be managed, he should be handsome. Cleverness isn’t important. Daughters in limited quantities are fine so long as they are pretty. Bastards are inconvenient and best ignored. It’s not a big problem, unless you are one.
Unfortunately, Sophy is.
Sick of her outcast role, she escapes her father’s house, only to fall from her horse during a spring storm. Injured, soaked, and shivering, she stumbles to a stranger’s door—Tom, a blunt edged merchant from a family of vulgar upstarts. Mistaking Sophy for the genuine article, he takes her in.
Sophy can’t resist twisting the truth. Soon she’s caught in her own snare—and it might just be a noose.

A deal with a notorious rake may be her only hope.
In a desperate search for her missing sister, Lady Natalia Abbingale is out of money, out of options, and out of hope—until she spies the one man that may be the key to finding her sister—the Marquess of Lockston. He was a rake. A connoisseur of young widows. She knew that. But he was also the only man that could help her.
Fletcher Williston, the eleventh Marquess of Lockston, had been minding his own business in the brothel, never imaging he was being watched. That is, until Lady Natalia appears at his home, demanding he help her to find her sister. Refusing her should be easy. He has secrets he must live his life by. And those secrets did not need to be threatened by a downfallen lady of the ton.
Yet Lady Natalia possesses the right family, the right veneer, and most importantly, the right circumstance—desperation—and a deal made with her could possibly be just what he is looking for.
Note: The books in the Lords of Action series by K.J. Jackson are each stand-alone stories, and can be read individually in any order. These historical romances are set in the Regency and Victorian eras, and do not shy away from scenes with steamy heat, occasional naughty language, and moments that might possibly make you squirm.
