Only trust can save her….
Sailing to London, Sophia Braighton only hopes to escape certain ruin. But when she arrives, her Great Aunt Daphne has other plans for the American-born beauty. Determined to marry off her niece to a man of means, she propels Sophia into London society, not knowing that the young woman’s trust in men is shattered. In fact, Sophia never expects to ever feel anything for a man. Then again, she never expects to find herself in the
company of the dashing earl of Marlton….
From the moment he sees Sophia, Daniel Fallon feels alive in a way he has not since his broken engagement. Though the vulnerable beauty shies from the passion burning bright between them, Daniel is determined to court her and make her his bride. And when he learns of the painful secret she harbors, he is equally determined to take revenge on the man responsible. But will the quest destroy him—and his future with his beloved?
This is my first time reading this author’s works. It was a memorable experience. I will make sure to keep her name on my TBR list.
The characters are well developed and very believable for the era in which this story is staged. You immediately feel empathy for both the hero and heroine as they have both experienced heartbreak or tragedy that changes their nature.
Can they overcome their past and forge a bond that will lead to their future together?
The plot has some interesting twist that make the storyline different from other books of this nature.
I would give this story a 4.25 star rating.

A Kiss at Christmastide
by Christina McKnight
La Loma Elite Publishing
Pub Date 27 Sep 2016
E-Book Available for $0.99 at:
Lady Pippa Godfrey has suffered the most ruinous London Season. She escapes to her Somerset estate for a quiet Christmastide holiday with her family, away from society’s prying eyes. But before her parents can join her, a storm crashes down on Somerset to destroy any hope of Pippa’s white Christmas dream. The roads have flooded and travel is impossible, leaving her stranded and alone. But a muddied, angry and devilishly handsome lord appears at her door demanding shelter.
Lucas Hartfeld, the Earl of Maddox, has been summoned by his parents, the Marquis and Marchioness of Bowmont, to attend a holiday party in the wilds of the country, far from his London townhouse. He suspects they command his attendance for far different reasons than a simple country party. When a storm strands his carriage, he’s forced to seek shelter at the only home for miles around, a local manor called Helton House.
When Lady Pippa is reluctant to admit him, he does what he’s been raised to do—demand she provide him and his servants with shelter until the storm passes. But the beautiful woman draws his interest far more than he’s willing to admit. Can Lucas find a way out of the predicament his parents are planning?
As Lady Pippa scrutinizes another arrogant, demanding lord, she is bombarded with memories of betrayals in her past. Can she forget those difficult life lessons to claim a Christmastide kiss from a perfect stranger?
Who doesn’t believe in a little Christmas magic and this story depends on just that to make it possible.
This reader loves a good Christmas storyline and this is just that. The characters are well developed and the storyline is what we have come to expect from this author, an excellent HEA, with unforgettable characters that make you want more.
I would give this book a 4.25 star rating and look forward to the next installment in the series.

A Highlander’s Christmas Kiss
by Paula Quinn
Forever (Grand Central Publishing)
A STRANGER’S SMILE
Christmas may be coming to Linavar, but Temperance Menzie is far from joyful. Grief-stricken over the death of her father at the hands of the Black Riders, she almost didn’t see the wounded stranger in the woods. And now she’s determined to give this braw, brooding Highlander the help she couldn’t give her father. But there’s a secret lurking in the depths of his blue-gray eyes. And Temperance won’t rest until she uncovers it . . .
A LOVER’S KISS
A killer for hire. It’s the last thing Cailean Grant ever thought he’d become, but being part of the Black Riders was his only way to survive. Now, his guilt grows day by day, along with his desire for the beautiful, brave lass nursing him back to health. As Christmas, the season of miracles, draws near and the truth of his identity threatens to come out, Cailean must risk the only thing he has left to lose-his heart.
I could not put this book down. I love this series and this Christmas Tale of Cailean Grant and Temperance Menzie is an exceptional read.
Our Hero, Cailean is a man with a secret that he is afraid to divulge to our Heroine upon hearing her opinion of the men responsible for her father’s death.
Will he ever tell her the truth and if he does will Temperance carry out her vow of retribution or will she forgive him in this Christmas Season of Miracles?
The characters in this installment of Paula Quinn’s popular Highland Heirs series are engaging and unforgettable. The storyline is well developed and in this reader’s opinion makes this book one for the keeper shelf.
I would give this title a 4.75 star rating and look forward to reading the next book in the series which is currently untitled but in the works.
I received a digital ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

PROTECTED BY THE LAIRD by Eliza Knight
While on a siege, Laird Douglas Hay discovers a lass’ half-frozen body. Though she’s his enemy, he cannot abandon her. As his captive, she could bring a hefty ransom. He revives her, a task easier managed than dealing with her fiery temper, and the intense desire heating his veins. Taken prisoner by a brutish warrior, Lady Annora Comyn is determined to escape. Secretly, she believes the war between Scots is ludicrous, that the vying for the crown should have ceased when her royal brother was murdered. Annora struggles with the notion of letting men fight their battles, or offering herself as collateral to unite the warring Scots. After all, there are far worse things than having to kiss Laird Hay everyday for ever and ever…
VEXING THE HIGHLANDER by Terry Spear

He’s as taken with her as she is with him, until she learns he is but a commoner, when she is a lady. The king would never make a match between them. Alban of the Clan Daziel meets a beautiful woman at the king’s court, only she is a lady and out of his reach. When the lady and he meet under awkward circumstances, they chance to overhear a plot to assassinate the king. Their lives spiral out of control and losing his heart to Aila is only one of his pressing concerns. Protecting her from those who wish the king dead—his greatest.
DEFENDED BY A HIGHLAND RENEGADE by Vonda Sinclair
When Lady Mairiana MacKerrick witnesses her fiancé, Alec Lindsay, committing a murder three days before their wedding, she decides she must run away. Darack Grant, secretly an outlaw MacGregor, is on a secret mission, but when he finds Mairiana hiding in the stables, he decides to help her escape. He remembers the lovely lass from their one meeting a few years before. Though he was drawn to her, he always saw her as far beyond his reach. Mairiana finds her hidden inner strength and trusts the Highland renegade to protect her on their journey through the Scottish Highlands. On the way, they find an astonishing passion. But Alec will stop at nothing to reclaim his betrothed and destroy Darack, even pin a murder on him.

But he believes Sorcha, even though he can tell she’s holding something back. He’s determined to help her but soon discovers he’s the one who needs protection…from losing his heart.
I will be reviewing this title as a member of Victoria Roberts street team, Bad Girls of the Highlands
