Episode 13: “Safe Harbor”
It’s curtain call at the Theatre Royal in the season finale of Whitehall, an episodic royal tale full of true history and sensual intrigue, new from Serial Box Publishing.
Catherine makes a splash as she returns to society with a special performance at Charles’ Theatre Royal. The season’s long journey finds all its players glittering in their finest (some, scandalously so) as the lights go up climactic season finale of Whitehall!
This episode is brought to you by Liz Duffy Adams and Delia Sherman, who very much hope you enjoyed your stay in Whitehall this season.

Advance Praise:

“Subtle and lusty, exquisite and dangerous…pure pleasure.”

“Grandly entertaining…Irresistible!”

– Louis Bayard, author of The Pale Blue Eye and the Downton Abbey recaps for The New York Times

“Deftly balances the pleasures of glamour and intrigue with insight into these fascinating people, most of all Queen Catherine.”

– Gordon Dahlquist, The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters

–Doris Egan, writer on TV’s “Reign” and “House”

“Compulsively readable and thoroughly addictive.”

– Megan Chance, author of Inamorata
“Fans of everything from Dorothy Dunnett to Hilary Mantel will love this witty mix of sex, scandal and intrigue.”

– Ellen Kushner, author of Swordspoint and creator of “Tremontaine”

My Thoughts:

This being a serial you need to read all of the offerings in order to grasp the full effect, As a standalone for this reader having not read the previous twelve episodes it was like taking a scene out of context in a play. It still was an enjoyable and quick read but you want so much more.
Being familiar with the time and place in history does help the reader grasp what is taking place though.
I would give this episode a 4.5 star rating.

For centuries they’ve lived in secret among northern England’s green and misted hills. Creatures of extraordinary beauty, power, and sensuality, they possess the ability to shape-shift from human to dragon and back again. Now their secret–and their survival–is threatened by a temptation that will break every boundary….

51iJCkX29pLDubbed the Smoke Thief, a daring jewel thief is confounding the London police. His wealthy victims claim the master burglar can walk through walls and vanish into thin air. But Christoff, the charismatic Marquess of Langford, knows the truth: the thief is no ordinary human but a “runner” who’s fled Darkfrith without permission. As Alpha leader of the dra´kon, it’s Kit’s duty to capture the fugitive before the secrets of the tribe are revealed to mortals. But not even Kit suspects that the Smoke Thief could be a woman.

Clarissa Rue Hawthorne knew her dangerous exploits would attract the attention of the dra´kon. But she didn’t expect Christoff himself to come to London, dangling the tribe’s most valuable jewel–the Langford Diamond–as bait. For as long as she could remember, Rue had lived the life of a halfling–half dra´kon, half mortal–and an outcast in both worlds. She’d always loved the handsome and willful Kit from the only place it was safe: from afar. But now she was no longer the shy, timid girl she’d once been. She was the first woman capable of making the Turn in four generations. So why did she still feel the same dizzying sense of vulnerability whenever he was near?

From the moment he saw her, Kit knew that the alluring and powerful beauty was every bit his Alpha equal and destined to be his bride. And by the harsh laws of the dra´kon, Rue knew that she was the property of the marquess. But they will risk banishment and worse for a chance at something greater. For now Rue is his prisoner, the diamond has disappeared, and she’s made the kind of dangerous proposition a man like Kit cannot resist….In this bewitching novel, Shana Abé transports us into a world of exhilarating romance and magic.

From the Hardcover edition.

This is a not to be missed series. I was hooked from book #1 and purchased the whole series in hardback. They are definite KEEPERS!

“What more could New York Times bestselling author Karen Hawkins’s fans desire” than the “sharp repartee, clever plotting, memorable characterization, and sizzling sexual tension” (RT Book Reviews) of her sparkling Oxenburg Princes fairy tale romance series?

Nikolai Romanovin, a royal prince of Oxenburg, has travelled to the deepest wilds of Scotland to rescue his grandmother the Grand Duchess, who was abducted while visiting an old friend in the Highlands. Wanting to avoid an international incident, Nik plans to quietly slip into enemy territory disguised as a groom at Castle Cromartie. But his plans go awry when he falls under the cool gray gaze of the laird’s daughter.

Pragmatic and clever, Ailsa Mackenzie has been left in charge of the family estate and her unruly grandmother in her father’s absence. Something about the new groom catches her eyes, and makes her think he’s not who he pretends to be—and even more shockingly, stirs her senses. Is it his obviously educated manners? His arrogant, non-servant-like presence? It’s certainly not his towering, powerful form, or slumberous, inviting green eyes!

After confronting the imposter and learning the truth, Ailsa agrees to help Nik—for she, too, understands difficult relatives and would do anything for family. Soon their secret partnership leads to growing respect, searing kisses, and then something far more perilous. And when their quest turns dangerous, Ailsa and Nik must discover this unknown enemy while facing the dangerous demands of their own unruly hearts.
